Anyone have any experience?
I am toying with getting a set for the kitchen but would like some opinions before deciding |
|
I think ceramic knives won't bounce if you drop them?
I've got a couple of Richardson Fusion forever sharp kitchen knives, the cutting edge is fused with tungsten carbide, never need sharpening and still scary sharp Sorry that didn't answer your question did it? |

Not really, but it is helpful. Just fancy a proper set of knives to replace the useless ones I have |

well you wouldn't want to buy cheap tat would you
I guess i depends if you want a good one or a great one. No I wouldn't but I don't know too much about these things and after seeing some ceramic knives on TV the other night, thought they might be the way to go. But as Dave says, they probably don't bounce too well

all I can say is I have a kin knife its the best kitchen ever used, I ve had ceramic coated knives stainless knives and stay sharp types none compare to the blade of the kin I guess its like a crkt blade comapred to a swiss army knife. Ok I don't understand your comparison as I don't consider either of those to be top rate, but.....I've had a look at the Kin website and there are too many choices

My girlfriend bought a couple a few months back and I've been very impressed. I don't know much about knives of the ceramic variety but these ones have cut everything in their path like bloody lasers.
The two worries I've had though are about how brittle they might be (they feel pretty brittle and are translucent if you hold them up to a light) and about sharpening them when they eventually need it. Hers also don't have a pointy tip (presumably because that would snap off too easily) so that puts anything requiring a point out of the window. They are pretty dear, but as long as you are aware of their limitations I think they're rather decent. Maybe worth buying one to try out first and see how you get on with it? |

When your Kyocera ones go blunt, buy some Global ones... You won't regret it... Although don't poke a Global one in the plug hole of the sink and chip the edge don't ask it was a spur of the moment oh bollocks!! should not have
done that moment Have to agree though the are very good and also nice to look at on the work surface. Bit about ceramic knives here not sure how much use to you though. |

Anyone have any experience? I am toying with getting a set for the kitchen but would like some opinions before deciding Im currently using a set of global knives. However a friend of mine who swore by global recenty picked up some ceramic knives from Aldi of all places. £7.99 for a large kitchen knife 15cm and the others ranged in price £6 to £3.99 . He says the keep an edge alot better than the global knives and go in the dish washer. I was toying with the idea of buying one to try out. |
|
Very interesting; Kyocera own the Yashica camera brand although they don't produce any cameras under that name currently.
I was asked at a camera fair about five years ago if I would like a set of their ceramic kitchen knives given the size of order I had just placed, I turned them down and opted for an additional 5% discount instead.............. |

Is it because they sell cheap cak?

Lol....Personally im non plus about Aldi, Only thing I have ever bought there was a couple ammo safes as they were on offer in the paper for £15. Not sure what the BBS lot have about that store. I only mentioned it as they had ceramic knives an you can get one cheap to try before investing in some more expensive ones. As I said im using Global at the moment and they are great but not dishwasher proof. If you want high end ceramic knives and have the spare cash go for Kyocera knives. You can get them direct from Kyocera via the website or John Lewis stock them.
