i went stalking today and my kit got pretty wet,so i have to dry it,ok quick wipe around and such, but i dont like to clean inside the barrel to often. so i have a question.
would 1 fowling shot clear the barrel and moderator of all moisture or is it going to create a situation where condesation will just creep back in as it cools. any thought on this topic would be grateful thanks |

It only takes seconds on a clean barrel and mins on a dirty one. |

i normally just leave out to dry for as long as needed, just thought i'd ask the question. why not clean the bore..well idont like to take the mod of or clean it when its shooting well, it makes a difference when i put it back together, or a least i feel it does If you are just talking about drying as opposed to cleaning - no harm in drying by radiator AND pushing one oily patch through the barrel to eliminate moisture there. This can be done with moderator in place and takes seconds. I imagine you could also clean with the moderator in place - I cannot remember any chabge in POI from moderator removal and replacement. |

If you do nothing else with it cleaning wise, take the mod off, dry it out, and clean the crown of the rifle every time you fire it. I am not slavish about cleaning the barrels of my fox/deer rifles, but I ALWAYS take the mods off and clean the crown when I get back. I've heard too many horror stories about corroded on mods/damaged crowns etc I also make sure at this time of year that the rifles are not cold/damp before they go back in the cabinet. As others have said, propped up near a radiator is ideal. If you find the rifle is grouping inconsistent when you take the mod off and replace it, it is possible the screw cutting has not been done concentric to the bore of the rifle and the mod is not always sitting exactly in the same place on the rifle.. |

thanks for the replys and advice as you said i always let the guns sit at room temp for a while before puting them away and at the mo the mod if of cause its wet, but i dont take it of every use and i have found after a good clean and mod in a sonic bath that the poi did change so im just cautious of this |

If you have stored the gun with the moderator on , you have already damaged the bore. Mods trap acidic gas for days, and it will attack even stainless barrels. I had one in a while ago where the mod hadn,t been removed for 6 months. It was stuck solid, and took a week of soaking in kroil to free it off. The crown was destroyed....along with the first two inch of the bore. I had to shorten it.
If the poi is changing , the mod hasn,t been fitted correctly. |

There's a thing round these parts Mister we call Plusgas |

Christ Mark, can you still get plusgas ? I remember soaking a webley junior in that stuff 30 years ago. My Dad found it in a shed, siezed solid. I,ve still got it, and it works a treat. Yes you can and you can also get Freeway. They both do the same thing, only difference is that Kroil is used by the Yanks in bore cleaning, therefore gets mentioned in the shooting press, gets picked up on by shooters in Britain as the thing to have, gets imported and used as wunderstuff, while all the time the same stuff has always been available here. If you can't get Kroil, Plusgas or Freeway, use 3 in 1 Remember that? I always used it on my bike chain

About a fiver and it'll last me ages and get used for all sorts of stuff. I run an oily patch down my rifle's bore after I get in from the farm and wipe the metalwork with it too. Nice clean bore and no rusty barrel. When I get the rifle out of the cabinet I just push a couple of dry patches down the tube or pull a boresnake through it. |
