I decided to replace my old laptop, it was second hand when I bought it in 2006  Spotty youth in shop wanted to sell me M/S Office 2010 home version, don't need it I said 'cos got a licensed copy of Office 2007 professional version through the home user programme from my employer. It was a good deal around £300 worth of software for £17.  Only problem is I can't find it anywhere and I liked using Outlook for email.  No problem I thought, I'll use old laptop just for emails except now it's just died taking all my email contacts down with it.  At least I'd backed up everything else on an external hard drive so not lost music or photo's etc.
The other problem is the wireless on the new one is rubbish as it keeps losing the signal even when it's only a couple feet from the router, don't you hate technology sometimes?

when you say died, maybe the hard disk is fine. They are easy to take out and attach to another computer (ideally a desktop) then you should be able to get all back....

If the wireless is that bad it sounds like a hardware problem. Take it back to the shop.

As for Office, ask your employee for the software and keys, if it was bough under their name then they should be able to find teh records for you.

I've retired so technically no longer a part of the "home user programme" so that option is a no no.  As I said I liked using Outlook instead of logging on to my ISP for each of my email accounts however I've found Mozilla Thunderbird as a (free) replacement for Outlook.  Wireless working ok tonight so far.
