Hello gents,
What kit do you .22LR AR15 owners use to completely clean your rifles?

Would anyone mind putting together a list of the best kit needed to clean the Bore/Chamber lower, upper, BCG, Firing pin etc.

All the best

Bob

Put it in the dishwasher but don't tell your Missus.

If it's Stainless Steel, just give the chamber and barrel a pull through with a .22 Boresnake and scrub the rest with a nylon brush and hot soapy water, then flush with a kettle full of clean boiling water, when dry a squirt of WD40 will stop it rusting.

ROFL OK, OK, so you don't clean yours then.

They're all dirty bastard skuz buckets on here Bob.

I just clean the carbon from the bolt & rails using Brunox turbo spray, & then give it a light lube of Firepower FP10 ( that's a good cleaner as well as lube btw).

The barrel gets left alone.

I've never taken the pin out of the bolt to clean it, & I've put thousands of rounds through mine.

Andy.

Well that sounds fairly simple, even I could do it.

Cheers John.

LOL, That's what the wife says about me.

This just gets easier and easier perhaps I'm worrying too much then. I thought if I didn't keep the BCG/Firing pin etc. clean I might start getting fail to fires etc.

Simple, just keep shooting it until it starts playing up, keep a note of how many rounds you've put through it & then you have your cleaning period sorted.

Of course you might be like me & clean it every 5- 600 rounds because you enjoy it & like a clean rifle.

I use an MPro-7 kit when I feel the need to clean mine.
it has all the stuff to clean the innards of the lower and bolt group.
I give the feed ramp a scrub with the M16 tooth brush but never touch the barrel

And I put it away with the hammer cocked and selector on safe.

I mean, you have to be really daft to want to drop the hammer to ease springs

The M16 toothbrush is very handy.

Thanks for that Mark.

I have been putting mine away with the bolt locked back and the dust cover closed.

British Army doctrine is to ease springs, whereas the US Army put them away with the weapon on safe....and they have a lot of M16's and as it doesn't bother them, it doesn't bother me.

Also it alleviated the risk of chamber peening wight the firing pin.

It's repetitive cycling that weakens springs, not being under load, but AR trigger springs are sturdy, besides how much does a spring cost? Probably less that £1

What trigger do you have?
