What do other owners find works well? I haven't really been able to experiment much with it, so it has been running 24.2gn of Varget with 69gn BTHP Scenars and Remington BR primers. Also tried a few 77gn Scenars which it seems to like, but again I haven't tried many variations. Scenar do not seem very popular and I began purchasing them because availability was that much better than the Sierra equivalent; SMK sell out quickly, but Scenar do not.
Usually shoot between 300 to 500 yards with it and very rarely past 600 yards. Also, what sort of muzzle breaks do you like for them? Thanks. |

Seriously, I've never tried scenars in 22 cal. so I don't know how better or worse than Sierras or Hornadys they are. However, I've used my same 223 load with 77SMKs as I use in my ARs and they work fine 24.5gns of R15 with Winchester brass and Rem 7.5 primers, loaded mag length). Moved away from 75Hornadys as I couldn't get them in as large a quantity or at a good price nd I was always left with a ring around the bullet after seating. It made no difference to how it shot but It looked wrong! Never felt the need for a muzzle break on the Aug or the AR really (although I do have one on my PR rifle because everyone had one on at one time ).

They seem very consistent and excellent quality, but I have heard it said that they are more picky in terms of load than SMK. Not as common as Sierra, so that might be one reason they are less popular. I get them from Sportsman Gun Centre since they are close enough to visit in person. I seem to have problems sourcing Hornady bullets. SGC have them, but not in the weights or types needed. Bought some Berger 73gn at the Phoenix, but those are also hard to find, so I haven't done anything with them yet. Why am I not mail ordering these things?! Thanks. |
