Oh joy, received my census form this morning.

Who's going to put down 'the cult of the black rifle' for the which religion question?

Andy.

Received mine today as well. Haven't opened it yet.

Is it compulsory to return it?

I'm going to put my religion down as 'Prince Philip Movement' which is a cargo cult in the pacific which worships him as a god,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Philip_Movement

I do find the work place address question a bit too intrusive, so as I occasionally work from home I'll just use that as the address.

Census should only ask how many people live in your home, their sex and their age.

Anything else is non of their business.

Any other information requested should only be provided on a voluntary basis if you are happy to do so.

No doubt they will be requiring a lot of surplus information.

Didn't I read some where it's a £1000 fine if you don't comply with 'big brother'.

I believe that is correct, though i don't know if they would be able to process the fine if enough people failed to complete the census.

If the questions could be viewed as invasive, but you have to answer by law, would "get stuffed" (or similar) count as a valid response?
You would have answered honestly (meeting your obligation), and don't we (allegedly) have the right to privacy?

Name rank and regimental number and your religion, remember boys loose lips sink ships.

Wonder when or if I'll be getting one sent over as an ex-pat?

There were a lot of Jedi Knights last time around. I might be signing up to them this time.

They did a documentary with them on Channel 4 a couple of years back; where they stayed with different families. They were really good people and were desperate to meet Prince Phillip. One of their hosts had Royal connections and so set it up (it occurred off camera). From their reaction, the Prince treated them brilliantly.

Got my census form today, It seemed a lot of pages to complete, read it and realised there's space for up to six persons.  It shouldn't take me too long as there's only me at this address and I could fill it now. However I might have an overnight visitor or be somebody else's

If it wasn't for the 1841 census I wouldn't have known my family originated from Ireland  Michael must have left around the late 1790's, anything happening over there around then ?

There was a bit of a to do in the late 1790's

Maybe he "left" in a hurry. Maybe we have yet another Arfcom member with Fenian blood in him

Can you put Fenian down on it?
It's either that or Caesarian

Fluffy, what surname will you be using?

I was trying to provoke a response from the "Irish" on here  I was already aware of the 1798 Rebellion and reckon he would have been about 20 years old then.  Maybe he was a member of the Society of United Irishmen, the family name is mainly concentrated in County Meath and when the rebels were crushed there he decided it might be healthier across the water. The Rebellion wasn't fought on sectarian grounds, it was an anti - establishment uprising supported by Irishmen of all religions yes that includes Protestants like my Irish forefather.
