All transactions have to be face to face unless you are a rfd. If your buyer isn't local you can arrange with your rfd to ship it to a rfd of his choice. Essentially you transfer your firearm to your dealer. Any cost incurred by both rfds are normally incurred by the buyer.

You can do it face to face onto his ticket, then let your Plod know you've done it. Easy and free.
Do it via an RFD just as easy but generally not free (unless it's me of course as I like charity!).

Quite right, how silly of me you can either use an RFD or Mark...

HI,thanks for the info,I have done face to face before just wasn't sure on sending a firearm through the
post.I spoke to my local rfd and he want's £20 for admin and postage which I think is quite reasonable.

Not bad, postage is about £18-20 overnight, bit less if you send plenty and have an account and a bit more if it's particularly heavy.

I don't charge for the paperwork either as we can inform the relevant authority via email, takes about 2 minutes and costs nothing. Shooting is expensive enough without making it more so unneccessarily.
I've seen dealers charge £20 just for the paperwork (but most will charge from £0 to £10 depending if you're a regular customer or not), but if you fill out the FAC of the buyer the dealer receiving the rifle and handing to the buyer will only have to look at the entry on his FAC, check the serial number is OK etc and then complete his register. No notification to plod as you'll have done that already.

Make sure that it's insured.  TNT appear to be making a habit of losing guns at the moment.

I think you might have made a typo there. I'm not sure you can describe it as "losing"

My Appologies, To clarify losing should include "failing to handle securely so that the gun gets stolen from the box...allegedly"
