| I have used a lens pen many times to clean my scopes lenses, but have never touched the felt chamois tip before. I bought a new Leopold one yesterday and decided to feel how soft the chamois was and was slightly surprised that it leaves a black kind of residue on my fingers like a black shoe polish kind of imprint - I assume this is normal but why is it black ?? I would have assumed a clear cleaner / solvent would be used instead of a dark colour - anyone know the reasons for this ?? |

Leupold don't make them, they just put their name on them.

Your first mistake was buying a Leupold. ![]() ![]()
Leupold make good scopes, and their customer service and aftersales service is second to none. Just my opinion based on using them. I found eye relief to be critical ( more so than ANY other scope I have used ) and identical cheek weld essential to keep groups tight. Other scopes were more forgiving. But I fear having moved to Schmidt Bender its going to be difficult accepting anything less now.

They are eye relief critical. Tis true. I had one on my AR15 for quite a while, but I remember Heart of Oak metioning that he found the eye relief difficult sometimes, and from that point on I really started to notice it.
That said, on a bolt action rifle for target work (F-class etc, they are exceptionally good and the optics are fantastic) I have Nightforce, Leupold, S&B, Trijicon and Leupold, and all are very good.... I suppose it's about chosing the right optic for the right rifle and discpline. |

I've been using a Leupy MK4 2.5-8x36 MR/T on my CSR rifle since the Imperial last year. I haven't experienced any issues with it all, eye relief or otherwise.
The elevation adjustments have proved to be consistent from 500-100, the image is bright and I consider it to be good value for money. (£550 or thereabouts) |

Well the FAQ's seem to answer the questions. FWIW, I used Leupolds for many years with lots of success and was always a big fan of them. Their customer service is excellent too. It was only when I developed the eye problem that I thought I'd treat myself to a Schmidt for it's better optical quality. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Leupolds to anyine though. For the money they're excellent. I also think that they are better looking scopes than Schmidt's. |
