Unfortunately I had to travel on the train into London this morning and sadly noticed how few people were wearing a poppy.........

Got mine, but deffinitely noticed how few people were wearing them at Uni. Not even the majority of the tutors were wearing them which was dissapointing, I can understand alot o foreign students might not get it, but lecturers? is there any excuse?

I'd consider myself to be more political left than right and i don't see any reason not to show respect for our troops (even if the reason for some wars has been debatable), same with my other friends. I think it's more down to people being lazy more than anything..

I'm now on my third poppy for this year - I keep losing them but wouldn't want to be seen without one.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about this. I work in London and have to say that round the city it's a pretty poor turnout. We've got a collection tin on our reception but a lot of places haven't.

That comment makes you sound so smart, on level with perhaps a 5 year old. I'm agreeing with the topic, not saying it's wrong and we should hate veterans or something? I'd of hoped people with similar interests could get on kindly with each other rather than take the piss of other peoples views?

And it's not just the 'commies' that arn't buying poppies, i think most people are as bad as each other in this... Lazy british people rather than any political alignment...

Because you outed yourself as a lefty libtard on a predomainately right wing forum (at least the American side), so we retired our UKHTF jury to decide your fate.

We have returned and the verdict is........

I would have expected you to have sussed the political bias and strongly pro-military ethos of this site by now.  There is no reason why we can't all be friends etc, but you must realise that you have stuck your head above the parapet by "coming out" on here and you must expect a certain amount of incoming as a consequence!

There is a great deal of to and fro piss taking and barracking on here, but at the end of it we all have an interest in shooting and the AR family in particular. If you have the same interests at heart stick around, go with the flow and you will learn and doubtless contribute a lot.   Speckled Hen for me please.

Cheers!

Back on topic - I went into town this morning and there were definitely more people wearing poppies than not and one of the shops in the (very small) high street has been temporarily turned into a British Legion Poppy appeal shop selling bric-a-brac.

That said I live in a reasonably conservative part of the cotswolds and most of the people around were my age or older...

when i picked up my son from the child minder today he informed me that he lost his poppy that he had from monday. dont worry i said we can get another when we go to the supermarket as the legion were at the entrance.
i  started to explain what the poppy stood for  and to my shock my son said "i know daddy "and proceeded to explain.
he is 5yrs old and has just started school.
just thought i mention it as so many adults seem to have forgotten.

last week  when cleaning my AR i told him that you never ever point  a rifle at anyone loaded or unloaded.
the next day after telling his mum many times this he appeared in the kitchen with a noisey toy AK 47 firing at his mum.
mum says you told me you should never point that at any one  to which he replied in sarcastic tone "mummy its a toy gun ITS NOT REAL"
when the misses told me i nearly pissed my self laughing

Bought two of the paper poppies so far and lost them both. Saw someone with an enamel poppy pin, so went back and bought one of those, which I haven't lost so far!

As for other people buying poppies, well there's a fair few been bought in the City and my current place of work too.

our box at work nearly sold out, all the window stickers and crosses went straight away.

I bought 5 for our family visit to our cenataph today, and I spared a thought for James Oakland while I was there

I was thinking of James Oakland, Liam Elms, Joseph Etchells and their families. I also thought about the members of my family who died to protect our freedom.

All the while I was stood through the two minutes silence holding my little boy in my arms with my wife. It was impossibly hard to remain composed thinking about those who can no longer hold their sons.

I think my little lad, with his poppy, recognised that it was an important moment.  He just said "Poppy" and put his head on my shoulder and just watched quietly (very uncharacteristic of a tiny 2 year old bundle of energy noise like him).

Too many kids these days have no understanding of how hard others have fought for their freedom, or at what cost in loved ones lost.

"You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once" - Robert A. Heinlein
