The Royal Air Force wear a blue/grey beret or forage cap and a peaked cap for formal occasions. Have a look at RAF Uniforms which are the official orders of dress for the RAF, the letter of the regulations so to speak. The Army have a number of different types of headgear, some of the other guys on here will be able to comment better than I can. |

what do regular army and marines wear? are british commandos equal to U.S. rangers, or what? i ran across one of your troops at anaconda in iraq..he even let me touch his gun

marines wear the same commando berret as the Army commando's (are they equal to Rangers got to say better )
Beret colours SAS Sand colour Armour Black or brown Infantry dark green or beige with or without hackle (feathered plume depending on regiment) Scotish regiments wear a tamo shanter Royal Irish wear a corbeen. artillery dark blue (looks Black) air corps light blue Mp's cherry red engineers dark blue logistics dark blue Reme (maint) dark blue there are others TA (National guard) etc. specialists airborne maroon commando green special OP Bty beige Distinctive Regimental head dress and insignia comes from the regiments history some hackles are for instance are battle honours the red tip from when it was dipped in the blood of the defeated French. the Beret was adopted during the second world war as was the colour maroon for all airborne forces and Green for commando's. currently there is a rush to re adopt patches on uniforms that were dropped back in the 60's.
