and thats without including your labour costs to physically put the rounds together....If you've got a single stage press (like me) then manually producing 1000 rounds of anything is a tiresome task...

ETA - Do you fancy calculating the cost of putting together 1000 rounds of .338LM....Now that really would hurt...

The RG we were using on the Open Day sells at £35 per 100 from the NRA So cost wise not a lot in it between milsurp and reloading on the figures above.

Well that'll teach you to buy from the NRA..............or rather, not to

I got into the reloading as an addon as my local gunsmith didn't stock .44 semi wadcutters. About a month after getting into reloading I realised that it was going to get expensive!!!  I don't buy top of the range stuff, infact most of my stuff is Lee or Lyman. I keep toying with the idea of getting some Dillon but her indoors keeps talking me out of it.  I just got into casting and now it is getting expensive. However a hobbies a hobby

I try to keep costs down. I buy new brass in bulk and shedloads of fired once stuff online. I buy primers in the 1000 or multiples of and get a few lots of powder at once. I know Im realy not saving on anything but somehow trust my rounds more than factory

Question for Mr ACR26...

Is there still a 'category' in CSR for users of factory or milsurp ammo as it seems to have disappeared from the results sheets this year ?

There never was an actual category in CSR for mil ammo - it was just on the score sheet to get an idea of the number of people using it to see if it was worth having it's own category...

Do you know if this is likely to happen ?

I for one would like to see a category for milsurp RG users.

Should Service Rifle also mean Service Ammo, and not handcrafted handloads for different distances ? ?

Managed to run the last HRA CSR Championships with everyone using the exactly the same ammunition. It did not make a lot of difference to the expected results, so hand loaded ammo or not it's still down to the nut on the butt.

I know the reason you want to load Milspec 7.62 ball
Is it feasable to buy some RG and break it down, then reload with
your own cases, using the RG powder and bullets again

You could also make more consistent loads that way

Is there any legalities over breaking ammo down

Just a thought

RG have announced that the won't be supplying ammo to non governmental users in future (not even the NRA)

As an aside, in November RG informed us that they
had decided that they would no longer sell to non-
Governmental customers. While we could possibly
have negotiated a way round this restriction, life’s too
short, and as stocks are used up, RG will disappear
from the retail market.

Funny, I recall a very experienced shooter on this forum declaring that homeloads gave a 25% accuracy advantage over RG..................

Presumably then, an RG shooter up against homeloaders only needs to shoot 75% of possible score to achieve 100%, or achieve 75%+ of the top homeloaders score to win.Sounds fair to me..

Anyone found 7.62mm RG 144gr FMJ for sale then? Or 5.56mm RG for under £35/100 ?
5/6/2009 10:28:12 PM EDT
[#17]
On a tight scoring ring target you would probably see a difference in scores between someone using 5.56mm RG and Home Loads, on a Figure target the scoring rings are so genourous you probably would not see a difference in score; groups might be tighter but the wide 5 scores the same as a dead centre 5.

AMMO Zone was doing 5.56 on clips in bandoliers £35 for 150rds.

I'm pretty sure I didn't pay £35/100 for 5.56 RG last time I bought some up here...NRA markup ?

Speaking of homerolled 5,56: which is the biggest i.e. heaviest bullets you've put in a case and still had it feed from a standard AR magazine? 69 grain SMK? 77 grain? The only AR's I've ever had my mitts on are 7" twist and that's rather quick for a 55 grain...?
