| Is it just around here, but I've not seen many, well hardly any 09 reg cars on the road. Usually you see new reg cars as soon as the new reg number is issued but it was ages after before I saw the first 09 on the road. Or maybe we are all too poor around here? |

Heard rumours that Govt is to offer £2k vouchers towards new car for anybody scrapping a 9yr + car. Now, I immediately thought "Buy a £50 banger, tax and insure it ( even if a non runner ) then scrap it and get 2k off new car"......sounds too easy. Maybe they will insist one has to own the car for a certain period etc |

This Government only helps themslves and their subsidised electorate, that at least two of us think the same no doubt means there will be obstacles placed to prevent that. Expect the price of old bangers to go up overnight. |

Surely it should only be for cars made in the UK! If only - sadly the good old EU won't allow that. It's really only a good idea in countries that have a strong car industry - like Germany, where the gov hopes that loyal citizens will buy VWs, Audis, BMWs and Mercs till the cows come home, boosting employment in their own factories. if it happens in the UK most people would look to buy small cars - almost all of which are imports. So, it's quite likely to happen as McBroon spunks away yet more of our (and our children's and grandchildren's) cash on another pointless scheme... |

Well, my old Pajero looks a bit tatty and is almost 15 yrs old. But it runs very well and never lets me down. And I can take it off road when shooting without worrying about little bumps and scrapes. Can park it anywhere as its not so attractive to thieves. Dont even have to worry about supermarket carpark shoping trolly dings either. Getting 2k for it would be great but I just cannot bring myself to scrap a vehicle which is still running fine ! ![]() |

Dacia Logans and Fiat are doing well out of this rather clever idea.
The used car market has gone bonkers, every cock and his dog believes that his 10year old motor is now worth €2,500. I have been looking for a run about since mine went jugs up last autumn and am having no joy what so ever, even been considering getting one off Auto trader, and driving a RHD over here. Best deals to date must be. Mitsubishi Carisma, at a Mitsubishi dealership. 10 years old 60,000km on the Honest I have never seen a drill to wind the km down. and they wanted €6,900 Renault Twingo, at a Renault dealership. 9+ years old, ragged condition 150,000 or there about on the clock and they wanted €3,999 I'm waiting till next year to get a car, by my reckoning after the election in September the deal of all deals will be cancelled and not run until the end of the year, and then every thing will start getting back to normal next spring. The €2,500 is in my opinion the tax that the Government would take on a new car anyway especially as out VAT is at 19%, and while our company has been on short time since the first of February, the have been paying the deficit of earnings for the employees, sort of, as some are still down up to €400 a month on their pay packet. Other things that I have noticed, as a Driver are:- Fewer trucks on the Autobahn. More (Zoll) tax inspectors checking peoples vehicles and commercial trucks to see if their drivers are collecting benefits and moonlighting...And hardly showing any interest for contraband in the Vehicle, I know as I have been checked a few times in the last month, where as I have never been checked by them in donkeys years of driving prior to this recession. After the recent shootings here, the Green party are considering an amnesty for illegally held firearms with a bonus payment for anyone handing one in ![]() ![]() , even though the shootings were committed with legally held weapons![]() ![]() .
