Took you long enought to realise

ps, I may be a moderating bastard but have never pushed anyone to their death nor given a woman a back-hander round the chops and then beat her on the legs with a steel rod, but there's time yet

Only ever had to draw mine twice, as a deterrent. Other than that only ever used it to break windows, greatly over-rated as a self-defence tool....and no I wasn't carrying a gat either time.

You could attach it to the bottom rail on your Tactical forend as a pistol grip and for shooting you could extend it as a mono pod, and wehn you run out of ammo use the whole gun as a side handled baton....

Sweet........

In 16 years, NEVER once used a wooden truncheon, polycarbonate baton or ASP !!

Used CS quite a few times though...........

That sounds like an excellent idea!

The ASP is a pretty sub standard self defence weapon IMHO - it was designed to knock a knife/bottle out of the hand of an armed assailant. However if someone pulls a knife then the average PC would be better off retreating and calling in an ARV. I've been told they bend if more than tap anything/anyone with them. Hence most coppers using the CS gas; as it doesn't (usually) have a long term effects on people. Whilst it might have a psychological effect on people of a nervous disposition when being drawn; that's about the extent of it's usefulness (apart from breaking and entering as Icarus said)

I've always found the ASP to be a strong piece of kit, I've just never needed to use it for it's intended purpose which is not for knocking weapons out of attackers hands but delivering a blow that would temporarily incapacitate an attacker. Bit like a 'dead leg', and only for application to limbs, aside from a few other controlled techniques. Officers tend to use CS more because we were until recently trained to use a 'force continuum', that is try the minimum force, which may be only verbal control, before going up the scale, ASP being at the top because of the risk of injury if you get it wrong. Hence, more situations are resolved with CS.

Add to that the perception issue - no matter what the scenario, when viewed on cctv, using an asp looks like an offensive act - basically clubbing someone.

CS is more defensive - especially when the HO approved stance is used - far less likely to be misinterpreted when viewed later on cctv.

Perhaps that's why those people at the G20 got hit with ASPs....

ONE CANNOT USE MET ISSUE CS IN A PUBLIC ORDER SCENARIO.

Because, if you spray it, and get a little on your shield, the propellant reacts with the material and it becomes brittle and shatters !!!

Apart from that, I think it would be preferable. That or water cannon. One does not have to have high pressure in the water cannon - just drench them in ice cold water. Make it uncomfortable rather than clubbing them.

Or the idea I saw in Chigago - two man team atop a 4x4 roof. One is obtaining video evidence of troublemakers. He indicates the individual to his colleague who marks him with indellible paintball gun ! Snatch squads then wait on fringes and at local transport links and arrest them on way home !
