The Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at US President George W Bush is seeking asylum in Switzerland, Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve reports.
The lawyer argues his client likewise cannot resume his old job in Iraq. Mr Poggia said he had been contacted by Mr Zaidi's family and was drafting a letter to the Swiss foreign ministry requesting its assistance in granting him political asylum. The trial of Mr Zaidi, who reportedly remains unrepentant, was postponed at the end of December amid discussion about whether he should be charged with either assaulting or insulting Mr Bush. Strange how he thinks he might not get his old job back! Also strange how he doesn't want to live somewhere like Syria - maybe he fancies a bit more freedom with a Western lifestyle - which is pretty ironic... |

I wish B'Liar had invaded Britain… I wouldn't mind some of the 'Rights' B'Liar insisted were neccessary for Iraqis… One full auto AK47 and one handgun for self defence sounds good to me. Don't forget that's one at home, one in the car (but not in view) and a third one at work... Back in 2003 I used to visit a health official as part of some extra duties and he always had an AK under his desk, as did the local judge, as did the bloke who ran the kebab shop! But then again, in many middle eastern countries firearms are easy to get. |
