Wow that is cheap.  However I do not trust USB hard drives. I have known too many people how have lost data on them.
Good for backing up stuff that you 'could' live without like p0rn and movies

Most are formatted FAT32 - so the first useful thing I do with them is trash that and format it as NTFS for a bit of extra protection.

Iomega - but I don't know what make of disk is in it. (I've also got an Iomega 250Gb pocket sized USB drive that's got a Seagate disk in it.)

TB is a TerraByte or 1000 GB (GigaByte) (approximately, don't want the nerds to say well no it's actually...blah blah blah)

On Tesco Direct the Iomega 1TB desktop hard drives (Catalogue number: 204-6510) are £69.97. Think this  http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-6510.aspx is the URL for them.

Technically you're safe there.

1TiB is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, but 1TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes (!)

That's the one - the shelf price was £69.97, but that's with 17.5% VAT. so it was a bit cheaper at the checkout.

For that price it's a good drive to back up your ENTIRE computer on and then give to a trusted friend so you have a copy of your computer and files off site.  Do the system backups, or create an 'image' of your machine every few months and if a meteorite hits your house you wont loose too much stuff.

Except your house!

"wow, the dog's gone, all my guns trashed, the kids are in the council shelter, and the wife won't stop crying, every thing's gone  - but luckily I've saved my porn and emails".
