chain mail shirt on ebay
Linky my "boys own" grasp of physics would suggest that even if the taser darts penetrated the mail then the electric charge would be discharged across the metal links instead the body. It might also make a good anti-stab vest? |

I would imagine that you would still get a serious shock through the mail shirt - that's provided the darts don't penetrate it. If you touch an electric fence through material you still get a shock.
As it looks as it has been hand assembled by a "nerd of the rings", there is no guarantee how strong the rings are; as they will probably have been formed into shape manually with a pair of pliers. A "Dungeon Master" I used to work with used to make them in his lunch hour - he used to dress up as an Elf with his equally cool friends for "role play" (and not in the way that motorsport execs have made famous either) at weekends. If you want an anti-stab vest then you would be better off getting one made by a reputable manufacturer that is made for the purpose; not trusting your life/safety on something made by someone who probably calls himself Aragorn at weekends! |

Lots of electricity and a metal vest........hmmmmm.... nah ![]() Wearing a chainmail vest is proof against electric shocks, the electricity goes round the outside (the chainmail vest) and not through the body, it behaves as a large Faraday cage. You do feel a slight tingling, similar to the feeling of a charged balloon close to the skin. The same as being in a swimming pool and it being struck by lightning - you're safe. (and the bar heater in the bath as well - as long as you don't touch the heater, or become part of the circuit by touching the earthed taps or plug, you'll be OK). When I was at college we went to the CEGB testing (educational?) centre and those of us brave enough could wear a chainmail glove earthed with a copper wire coming out the wrist and have lightning shoot from our fingers as we neared the 2 megavolt supply generated by a giant Tesla coil. So the mail vest would save you as long as both barbs of the taser were shorted by the metal links. http://www.drmegavolt.com/gallery/images/austin_teslathon99.jpg Dr MegaVolt - now he apparently battles the lightning with a large sword and is available for parties - I kid you not. Cool Flies in the face all the things daddy taught me about tinfoil hats and lightning But I suppose it makes sense, path of least resistance and all that.....and our bodies are just big resistors ...... Wouldn't like to try it though.....

I dont think I will try the heater bar in the bath !! Oh, go on, please
No don't, good advise. Warning Trouble is most baths are earthed at too many points and when you touch that earthed point you become part of the circuit. Water on its own is not a very good conductor but fill it full of ions and other particles (bath products, fluorine and chlorine from the water company) then it becomes a very good conductor. |

Best I get a life insurance policy for my wife........................... |

I prefer a slightly more modern weapon system to a broadsword/longbow... Whilst I chose my "tag" for Monty Python-esque comedy effect; there is a name based reason for it (just like the 1974 bit! All very mysterious. I typed Blackknight 1974 into google and it brought up some quasi masonic lodge in USA with roots in the Orange Order in Armagh and reference to achieving marksman status before becoming a black knight........................... Do you have a funny handshake ? Have you travelled far ? |

Do you have a funny handshake ? Have you travelled far ? You must be having a quiet day! Nope - I nothing to do with any masonic lodge or anything sinister. Black is half of my surname and when I stayed in Australia in '98 I was looked after by a family named "Knight" who basically became my surrogate family. Hence it was a running joke when I stayed that I was the "Black Knight" (as they were all Monty Python fans and I am much bigger than all of them). It was then that I started using it as my internet tag... |
