Hey,

Well i'm looking to buy my first gun cabinet/safe at the moment, and was just wondering if there were any pointers or tips anyone could give me in what to look for?

I'm looking for a 3/4 rifle cabinet with a lockable top for ammo (though if its cheaper to get a seperate ammo safe i'd prefere to do that).

I'm a student at the moment so the key issue is price, aslong as it's good enough for the police, it's good enough for me..

So yeah, any pointers on price and where to look?

I've looked around abit on the net and it looks like i should be spending about £170 on a brand-new one? Is there anywhere good to look for second hand cases?

Thanks alot,
cabbage0dusk

I have a Brattonsound RD5 Extra Deep 4/5 Rifle Cabinet.

Sounds like just what you need and its £135 ish. I got it online from a place called phillip morris. If you google it you can find it. They also sell the bolts, rawl plugs and even the drill bit you need.

It seems very well made and when the FEO (west mids) came over he said he thought Brattonsound ones were top notch.

EDIT - just noticed you want one with a lockable top. This site has ones that do that too although I went for a small pistol safe and just put my ammo in there.

Hope this helps,
-Paul

Buy a bigger cabinet than you think you need as they fill up fast.

Also pay attention to the depth of the cab. If you plan on using optics on your rifles, then you'll need an extra deep cabinet.

Take a look on egay, I bought my last ammo cabinet from there for £35 (Brattonsound large)

Some gun shops have a good selection of second hand cabinets, but as the don't wear out they're not much cheaper than new.

Get the biggest you can afford and the extra deep one. Normally you can get about 2 less firearms in a cabinet than they quote, ie a 3/4 cabinet will comfortably fit 2 rifles but 3 might be a squeeze especially with large scopes on or big bolt handles - I can only get 4 ARs in a 5/6 gun cabinet with the 5th one having to go top to tail.
Spend the extra £10-20 on getting the next size up from what you want. Besides plod will normally give you enough slots to fill the nominal spaces in the cabinet.

Ok well i was looking about on ebay tonight and just couldn't wait any longer..

So i went for this..

It's abit more than i wanted to spend, but i've heard good things about BrattonSound and it's designed for 9 guns so should be plenty big enough for me, for now anyway

Thanks for all your help!

Nice one, I've got an SL7+ and a separate ammo box and  am pleased with them. A solid bit of kit.
