I know, I know. The thing is I have been on three driven hunts and driven over 1,500km to get to them (there and back), and what have I seen or shot, Nada, nothing not a sausage. We do have some about where I live, but they are seldom seen, or shot. I have got to the point where I don't really go out hunting any more. I have gotten bored taking a gun for a walk in the wood's for no apparent reason. I shoot a Roe deer once every 150+ hunting trips that I go on, in that time I could have taken 100+ Nordic Walker's, joggers, horse riders or members of the general public who are out taking a walk and being a nuisance, scaring the deer away. Believe me I don't give up easily, but over the last 5-7 years things have been getting worse, and these days I just sit at home in front of my PC being PC in a disappointed daze. However once some of the public have been savaged by these piggys and have complained that the hunters are not doing enough to keep the population down, I will be the first to ask them what they were doing in the middle of the forest at feeding time .A hunting trip locally takes about 2-4 hours in all types of weather, multiply that by 150+ and then the time I need to get my stuff sorted out, trips to the range, building high seats, and in winter distributing feed to the various feeding stations and that is all without any sort of pay, on the contrary I have to pay for all of my equipment and ammo myself and then for the hunt, which isn't cheap. I'm very close to giving up hunting altogether and just concentrating on target shooting. Tony |
