Are there any interesting competitions in the UK based around the AR15? I see the 3 gun competitions in the USA and wonder if we are doing anything with our own slant, such as straight-pulls, practical shotguns and LBR's? Could be a lot of fun! |

Yes I am indeed new to this site and the straight pull AR. I was just wondering about the 3 gun style of matches as having read about them in the shooting press, they seem to be on a whole new level of fun. They seem to involve very interesting courses and obstacles. Is anyone running something like that over here? I appreciate they probably wouldn't involve abseiling and death slides! I've seen the Service and Practical rifle, who is running good, interesting courses of fire? I’m not that great a shot or deadly serious competitor, but do want to have a bit of a laugh and enjoy my shooting! What are the ones worth going to? |
Civilian Service Rifle (CSR) is worth going to. It's about as much movement and shooting as you will get here in the UK. I doubt the range safety rules would allow stuff seen in the US 3 Gun shoots. The CSR shoots are starting again soon, once our Master RO posts the confirmed dates but he is too busy drinking fruit based ladies drinks |
The USA style 3 gun comps you are refering to are also called multi-gun, where you will use more than one gun type per stage. There are 3 gun competitions here in the UK but dont include full bore rifles, due to range capabilities as Lonesniper points out. Also the 3 gun comps here are not multi-gun and so you only use one gun type per stage. The comps tend to be about 12 stages, 4 x practical shotgun, 4 x LBR / carbine and 4 x .22 rifles. So if you had a .22 (conversion / version) of an AR you could well shoot an AR type rifle in a 3 gun match in the UK. Frome Gun Club and Shield Shooting Centre both hold 3 gun comps a few times a year and they tend to be large comps, great fun and very well attended. Look them up on the tinternet and give them a shout - they are nice guys |
Opps did not mean to ruffle any feathers. You know you are both 'the main man' right? There are some good videos on video.google.com about Civilian Service Rifle for those that want to 'see' what its like. |
+1 He's the only person I know that's actually used the word Bohemian in a conversation without batting an eyelid

It's a shame there isn't something a bit more active, I could do with the exercise! I tried Biathlon, but my skis just got stuck in the grass. I'll check out the clubs mentioned, it's not a necessity for me to use my AR, just thought we might have been doing some comps that would take advantage of it which would be a bit lively. Is there nowhere we could do multi-gun over here? We do have some substantial ranges we could rustle something up on perhaps? I know Bisley is out, but what about Thetford etc? Or is there just not enough people who would be game for it? |
Well, the most active form of shooting I have found in recent years has been,.brace yourselves..........practical pistol with CO2 and GBB airsoft pistols...........Then there's PSG and minirifle, but the latter are a bit few and far between and still not as fast as practical pistol (although there have been a few LBR/LBP practical comps at Leicester and Shield... |
I think they are already here..........and I didn't know JR had a son............ |
Yeah, and what did the mother look like? |
I think he must be a hermaphrodite because I've heard lots of people say '..he can go and f%*k himself..' |
