A couple of low level C-130's just flown by the house. Ok all I could see was the nav lights and they were about half a k away but down at 250 feet.  Not the first time I've "seen" them at night out here in the sticks.

They're often at it round here. Favourite time is Friday evenings because the Low Flying Sytem is generaly closed except for them.

You're lucky they had the lights on. I've been quietly bimbling along at 1000' in the dark when the f!#^$rs passed underneath us, and we only spotted them because the thermal camera was on..

Another time one of our crews had a scary moment when they were in a nightime search pattern when a pair of Herc's snuck up on them and came so close that the nav lights light up the cockpit as they went by............

That cost them a lot of snivelling and some free trips..

Though WW3 was on when 3 C-130's in a "V" slithered over my roof at Oh my god its late oclock some time ago.... Shook the tiles on the roof loose..

Good luck to them.... They generally give good warning in the press, but some are a tad more stealthy....

About 10 years ago I was sat in a high seat hunting, when all of a sudden three (US) attack helicopters decided to drop into the clearing in front of me, scared the living daylights out of me, so I gave them a wave as they hovered a few meters above the ground about 40m away from my high seat, as they looked at me their collective MG's pointed at me. They then burst out of the clearing and it was time to go home.

I was out foxing a while ago on my mates farm in the early hours when a bloody great chinook droped down in the next field. It stayed on the ground for about 30 secs and then tore off again. I told my mate and he was approached by the army to let them drop some teams off to practise living rough. I now get advised which areas to avoid at certain times. Dunno what they thought of me walking around with the AR.

It's impressive to see an aircraft that size at low level, especially when you are looking down on them. I have seen them around in the Newtonmore/Avimore area and they are pretty dramatic. I think one crashed up there a few years ago. We don't get much military low flying in the area close to Aberdeen because of the offshore helicopter traffic.

The one occasion I have flown in a formation was with a Hercules, they are surprisingly graceful in flight.
