Just bought a secondhand carbine, been down to the range with it today to zero etc, one slight problem with it. When cycling the charging handle to load the next round into the chamber it seems to get stuck just before entering. I have to cycle the charging handle 3 or maybe 4 times before the round will chamber correctly. Only put 2 mags through it, but had the same problem on virtually every round, PMAG's and RG. Obviously the round is getting damaged during this process, so decided to stop rather than risk damaging the barrel. Has anyone got any sensible suggestions. |

First off, it won't damage the barrel as long as the cartridge case isn't damaged. So you can relax a bit there. Most ejected live rounds will have scratched bullets. Some times this is a problem with the bolt not having enough energy to effectively strip a round from the mag. The M4 had special feed ramps to try and stop this. Our hand operated bolts don't help. (ETA: Sometimes it's a mag problem.) A little work with a dremel can solve it. I'll see if I can find the pics to show the difference between the carbine and rifle feed ramps. ETA You shouldn't need to go this far, but this has helped in the past. If you are using heavier bullets the longer ogive can make matters a bit worse as the more pointy bullet is more likely to fit between the lugs.   Hope this helps.
