And me To all competitors in the March Civ SR Competition 28th Feb 2008 Dear Competitor, I am pleased to confirm that all arrangements are now in place for an enjoyable and challenging day’s competition. I anticipate having a total of about 24 competitors, and have squadded accordingly in four groups of six. You will be shooting on Butt 19 all day on Sunday morning, and on Butt 14 on Sunday afternoon. In both morning and afternoon all competitions will be "self-marking" and therefore half of all competitors will, at any one time, be shooting (in two consecutive details) while the other half will be marking in the Butts, two to a target. Range and Butts staff will be the most experienced competitors on the firing point and in the butts at any one time. We will again be using DP1s, half DP1s (which I am calling DP 12s) and DP 14s in lieu of Fig. 11s, Fig. 12s and Fig. 14s. All practices will be as per the sheet of Match Conditions which was attached to your entry form. In order to complete the matches in the time available we shall have to work fairly quickly, with six practices to be shot in both the morning and the afternoon. As usual ammunition will not be supplied for these matches. While the required targets will be placed in the Butts by the Target Shed staff on Friday a certain amount of "range rigging" in the Butts will be required before, during and after shooting, e.g. mounting and de-mounting the wooden target frames. With two per target this should not be a problem. Self adhesive brown and black patches will be used, with the normal orange spotting disks on pins being used to indicate shot holes if time permits. Scores will be radioed to the firing point. The wooden frames which hold the normal targets will have to be replaced by us in Butt 19 after the Sunday morning matches, and in Butt 14 on the conclusion of shooting on Sunday afternoon. Squadding cards will be available on Sunday morning from the car park at 300 yards to the right of Butt 19, and I would like all competitors to assemble there by no later than 7.45 a.m. for issue of cards and for briefing. This briefing is extremely important, and I particularly request that all competitors make sure that they are present by no later than this time to allow for the issue of squadding cards, a complete briefing and to allow time for any questions. Those competitors who are in Group B (i.e. not firing in the first group) will then go into the Butts, using the road on the RHS of Century, while the other group will move on to the 300 yards firing point on Butt 19 for Practice 1 of the first match. Timings for Sunday will be approximately as follows: Sunday morning Group A1 to be ready to shoot, and Group A2 to be ready on the 300x firing point, by 08.20. Groups B1 and B2 to be in the Butts, with the Butts rigged and ready to mark, by 08.20. 08.30 – 10.30 Groups A1 and A2 fire the six Match Practices at 300 yards, shooting ‘turn about’ at each distance before moving to the next distance. 10.30 – 10.40 Groups A and B change over using the Short Siberia track 10.40 – 12.40 Groups B1 and B2 fire the six Match Practices at 300 yards, shooting ‘turn about’ at each distance before moving to the next distance. All shooting should finish by 12.40. Sunday afternoon Groups A1 and A2 to be ready at 100 yards on Butt 14 by 13.20. Groups B1 and B2 to be in the butts on Butt 14, with the butts rigged and ready to mark, by 13.20. 13.30 – 14.50 Groups A1 and A2 fire the six Match Practices, from 100 back to 500 yards, shooting ‘turn about’ at each distance before moving to the next distance. 14.50 – 15.10 Groups A and B change over using the Markers Walkway 15.10 – 16.30 Groups B1 and B2 fire the six Match Practices, from 100 back to 500 yards, shooting ‘turn about’ at each distance before moving to the next distance. Stats will be done at the rear of the range, and if possible the prize winners will be announced at about 16.45 on the firing point. Medals will be awarded for the aggregate of the six matches in the morning, and for the International SR Match in the afternoon. Based on the estimated entries I expect the medals to be as follows: Name of Comp. Rifle Class Colours of Medals 300 Yards Aggregate Historic Gold 300 Yards Aggregate Any Iron Gold 300 Yards Aggregate Service Optic Gold Silver Bronze 300 Yards Aggregate Practical Optic Gold International SR Match Historic Gold International SR Match Any Iron Gold International SR Match Service Optic Gold Silver Bronze International SR Match Practical Optic Gold Entries are only just beginning to finalise and, since the number of medals to be awarded in each class depends on the number of entries, it has not been possible to have the medals engraved in advance. For this reason the medals will be engraved and posted out to the winners next week. I hope that this information will be of use to you. Please remember to be present and ready in all respects in the 300 yard Car Park on the RHS of Century by 7.45 a.m. on Sunday morning. With best wishes, Martin |

Good to see the scores posted up so promptly; I had family things to do in the afternoon so missed what I thought was going to be the best bit. Tell me, did anybody go arse over tit in the afternoon rundown? he) And thanks to Paul, Mark, Nick and the butts supervisors who did the work. |

Take it that 28th was when that missive was penned..?
