Wouldn't you know it....

Down in Windsor on 17th overnight.....might try and nip down to Bisley and get familiarise myself with the layout for when I can come down and shoot while I'm down next time.....perhaps pop into Fultons as i've never been.

Assemble at the 300-yard car park on the RHS of Century Range.

AMU MATCH 308: SECRETARY OF THE ARMY (SECARMY) RIFLE MATCH (AMENDED FOR UK)

Stage 1 - Precision Slow Fire

Distance: 200 yards.
Position: Standing.
Shots: 2 sighters followed by 10 to count.
Target: One ‘half DP1’ scoring 5 and 4.
Timing: 10 minutes.
Procedure: Shots will be scored after the 10 rounds to count.

Stage 2 - Rapid Fire Sitting Note: This stage requires a magazine change.

Distance: 200 yards.
Position: Standing Alert to Sitting.
Shots: 2 sighters followed by 10 to count (1 magazine of 2, 1 magazine of 8).
Target: Two DP1 scoring 5 and 4.
Timing: 50 seconds.
Procedure: Competitors will begin the stage in the Standing Alert Position. Upon
the appearance of the targets, competitors will assume the Sitting position and engage their target with 5 rounds on each.

Stage 3 - Rapid Fire Prone

Distance: 300 yards.
Position: Standing Alert to Prone.
Shots: 2 sighters followed by 10 to count (1 magazine of 2, 1 magazine of 8).
Target: One  ‘half DP1’ scoring 5 and 4.
Timing: 60 Seconds.  
Procedure: Competitors will begin the stage in the Standing Alert Position. Upon
the appearance of the targets, competitors will assume the Prone Unsupported position and engage their target.

AMU MATCH 311: AUDIE MURPHY COMBAT MATCH
(AMENDED FOR UK)

Phase 1 - 300 Yard Assault

Distance: 300 yards.
Position: Standing Alert to Prone.
Shots: 10 to count.
Target: One DP1 scoring 5 and 4.
Timing: 90 seconds.
Procedure: Competitors will start this phase in the loaded Standing Alert position. When the targets are exposed, all competitors will advance to the 300 yard firing point, assume the Prone Unsupported firing position, make ready and engage their target with 10 rounds.
Upon completion of this phase all competitors will make their rifles safe with a magazine of ten rounds and await further instructions.
Phase 2 - 200 Yard Assault

Distance: 200 yards.
Position: Standing Alert to Kneeling or Squatting.
Shots: 10 to count.
Target: One  ‘half DP1’ scoring 5 and 4.
Timing: 90 seconds.  
Procedure: Competitors will begin the stage in the loaded Standing Alert position
on the 300 yard firing point. When the targets are exposed, all competitors will advance to the 200 yard firing point, assume the kneeling or squatting position, make ready and engage their target with 10 rounds.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON 16th FEBRUARY 2008 START TIME 13.15

ARA MATCH 7 – THE ROBERTS (“THE ATTACK MATCH”)

Practice 1 — Attack

Distances: 100, 200 and 300 yards.
Position: Prone unsupported.
Targets: At 100 one ‘half DP1’, at 200 and 300 one DP1.
Scoring: 4 points per hit.
HPS Prac 1: 40.
Procedure:
(1) The firers are to adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded with a magazine of 10 rounds, sights adjusted and with safety catch applied
(2) The 100 yard target will exposed ‘up and hold’ for 15 seconds, and will then be lowered. One second later the 200 yard target will be exposed, `up and hold’, for 15 seconds. The lowering of the 200 yard target will be followed one second later by an exposure of the 300 yard target ‘up and hold’ for 20 seconds.
(3) Up to 10 rounds only may be fired in this phase, but any number of rounds may be fired at each target. Any unfired ammunition may be carried forward.

Practice 2 — Reorganisation

Distances: 200 and 300 yards.
Position: Prone unsupported.
Targets: One DP1 at each distance.
Scoring: 4 points per hit.
HPS Prac 2: 40.
Procedure:
(1) Fifteen seconds after the last exposure of Practice 1 is completed either the 200 or 300 yard target will be exposed ‘fall when hit’ for three seconds, followed by nine more exposures of three seconds, at irregular intervals of between three and ten seconds, over a period of two minutes. There will be five exposures each of the 200 and 300 yard targets in any sequence; two of the first five and two of the last five exposures will be in quick succession.
(2) Only one shot is to be fired at each target during each ‘fall when hit’ exposure in this Practice.
(3) The firer may be on aim throughout.

Practice 3 — The Enemy Counter-Attack

Distances: 300, 200 and 100 yards.
Position: Prone unsupported.
Targets: At 100 one ‘half DP1’, at 200 and 300 one DP1.
Scoring: 4 points per hit.
HPS Prac 4: 40.
Procedure:
(1) Firers will start in the standing alert position, loaded but not cocked with safety catch applied, until the first target appears.
(2) On the appearance of the 300 yard target, ‘fall when hit’, for eight seconds the firer is to adopt the prone position, make ready, release the safety catch and engage the target with one round.
(3) After an interval of between ten and 15 seconds this will then be followed by three series of exposures of the 300, 200 and 100 yard targets in that order. Each exposure will be for three seconds each with five seconds between each exposure. There will be irregular intervals of between 15 and 20 seconds between each series.
(4) Only one shot is to be fired at each target during each exposure in this Practice.

Practice 4 — Patrol Encounter

Distances: 300 and 200 yards.
Position: Sitting, Kneeling or Squatting unsupported.
Targets: One DP1 at each distance.
Scoring: 4 points per hit.
HPS Prac 4: 40.
Procedure:
(1) Firers will start in the standing alert position, loaded but not cocked with safety catch applied, until the first target appears.
(2) There will be five series of exposures of the 300 yard target first for three seconds, then a three second interval followed by the 200 yard target for three seconds, with irregular intervals of between 5 and 20 seconds between series.
(3) Only one shot is to be fired at each target during each exposure in this Practice.
(4) Targets will fall when hit.
(5) Firers may be on aim throughout.

Miscellaneous

a. This match will be fired as one continuous phase. Once the match has commenced the only orders will be for the firers to reload after Practice 2, and to adopt the Standing Alert position before both Practices 3 and 4.

b. Each firer will require four magazines of ten rounds each. After the initial order to load in Practice 1 has been given the firer is responsible, during the match, for changing magazines without further orders. Transfer of rounds between magazines is not permitted.

c. Scores by ranges will be given at the end of the match.

I've decided that I want to change the sling (biothane - its fookin stiff) and the optic (too big & cumbersome).
Also found that cross legged sitting is a more stable position for me (as demonstrated by the orange clad shooting god)

After some experimentation I've found that cross legged sitting is more stable for me too....I've never shot with a sling though, I'll get around to it at some point.

We have this conversation after every match

As for sitting, it's more natural to sit left leg crossed over right, but at the PR nationals 3 years ago, I got kung-fu'd by old Bob who well and truly buggered my knee and the result was I had to adopt a right over left position.
I much prefer this position now as it elevates the right elbow more and gives a more stable position.
I also prefer the position in the pic to the other crossed ankle position.

A good sling and practise with it's use will pay dividends.
I still prefer the leather sling

BTW, I won the Nationals that year, including the 1000yds
