You could look at the Ciener conversion kit, though maybe not as accurate and I am sure other people will come up with a thousand other reasons why not to, it is certainly a cheap option worth considering IMHO

If you're just planning on using it for a bit of practice then I would go with the ceiner option too.  No good for lightweight sport rifle comps as it just won't be accurate enough but it will be  good enough for a bit of, otherwise unavailable, trigger time. Also it's the cheapest option at around £150.

A Bremmer rimfire upper should be at the top of your shopping list if accuracy and reliability are important - but it's like trying to find rocking horse poo as I've recently found out!  If you do find one it will almost certainly be the complete rifle.  I have had 3 of these at one time or another in full length (21") and carbine (12") and I rate them very highly.  The market rate for a complete rifle in good condition is around £600 - £650.

At the bottom of my list would be a CZ V22.  Apparently these can be made to be quite good but the side cocking handle and lack of reliability out of the box would put me off.  As an upper these cost around the £450 mark.

We're poorly served in this country when it comes to rimfire ARs but the market seems so limited, no-one wants to be bothered making them.

To find one it's a matter of keeping an eye on gun mart and gun trader and also this forum and airgunbbs.

Good luck!

Why not consider a 9mm???!!!!!!!

From reading the many posts on this Forum, both Cieners and dedicated uppers such as the Bremmer, Spikes' and V22's can be a bit of a lottery. You will hear good and bad about all of them.

I personally wouldn't want to mess up a good 5.56mm upper with a Ciener kit and have poor accuracy. I've not shot a Bremmer but hear mostly good about them. I have owned a CZ V22 for 5 years, put the better part of 8000 rounds through it and the only problems I have had were one firing pin break (7 quid to replace) and magazine related problems (Ciener type). The SGC mags are very good but expensive, but now BDM mags are available, these guns are suddenly very desirable again..

..again you only have to look on the forums to see the rising popularity of rimfire AR's for plain fun shooting..

Mine is good enough to wipe the floor with all the gucchi Volquartsens and win me medals.

I think this is true of all the dedicated .22 AR uppers. People buy 10/22's (which I am not deriding, it's a great little gun for the money), throw most of them away, and put all these expensive bling bits on them and they still don't shoot any better and are frequently less reliable. they are even now trying to turn them into AR's hence the Cactus conversion kit and the other one which escapes me for the moment, SYSS?

The V22's up to the job, over 9k through mine & shoots great.
