I was watching an episode of Sharpe today, when the "Make Ready" command was given. I was never in the armed forces, so know little about the subject, but if the series is historically correct (1809ish) then it seems these commands have been in use for quite some time then ? Just found it interesting....random muttering over....back to my pint of Greene King... |

Isn't breech loading a bit modern? |

'Make ready', to myself always will mean:- Safety catch Pouch Magazine Check mag is loaded and the rounds are seated correctly Insert mag (in the weapon) Fasten Mag pouch Load/cock the weapon (making sure that the muzzle is pointing in a safe direction) Check safety But then again I'm just an old sweat, but the 1809ish stuff was a bit before my time On MBT's and CVRT's we had the same command....
