The Sportsman have an advert in the latest Target Sports Mag (Sept), offering Man-Op Steyr Aug's. Picture appears to show LH cocking. There will be an initial offering of 100 rifles. Prices start at £1299 Spec/options 20" Chrome line barrel, threaded for sound mod 9,30 & 42 round mags OAL 31" Folding forward grip Steyr 1.5x Scope |
Thought I'd get a few. Ones already spoken for and I've taken 2 for myself/stock. Don't know if I'll keep it but I thought I might as well use the opportunity. There's only about 15 left on the order |

I wonder how user friendly they are going to be in man-op mode ? Any body actually seen one yet ? I had a look at one of the Irish Army Aug's at Bisley earlier in the year. With an Elcan, I was quite impressed. With the 42 round mag, you can mag-rest whilst prone The advert says introductory price of £1299, does that mean the second batch of 100 will be more £££££££....? |

I used them operationally up until late last year (semi-auto) and they are luverly. I would be hard put to choose between a seriously sorted AR and one of these. I would imagine there are limits to how good the trigger can get due to the construction but they are very, very accurate for their type. I want one but it's even further away than an AR for me |

Got two on order for Low Mill, one of which is mine. Must say that its only taken just over 3 years to get this sorted out. I first talked to Gary at the sportsman back in June 04 about the possibility of getting the Aug improted. Initially Styer were not keen at all, but with a lot of persuasion it seems to have paid off. Shame the same cant be said about Jabba's 9millie ![]() Latest news from Gary is that the first 100 will be assembled by end of first week in October, we will have them a week or so later. |
...and they work! I know a man with a shedload of 9mm mag adapters and mags |

I had a go with the Austrian army's version while I was on a UN tour, the Austrians thought that we were mad as we all to a man let go on full auto, some disagreement with our skill at arms and the marksmanship principles, the one where you hold the trigger to the rear until the weapon has settled after the shot has been fired, whamo if you wait to long 'rock 'n' roll'. I have also had the pleasure of shooting club members civilian versions. I personally wouldn't want one as the trigger isn't to my liking. AR's are better. Tony |
I'd agree with the trigger issue, that said AR factory triggers are nothing special, but they are easy to improve. I just like the accuracy potential in that compact package, and they are easy peasy to shoot and maintain. |
only a 20" barrel for starters, rifle comes with one 9 round mag but you can buy 30 and 42 round mags as well. But whos gonna want a 42 round mag unless of course your some old fucker who cant get down prone an wants to shoot mag rest standing |
PR's dead only SR counts now therefore no stupid weak shoulder stuff
|
I sooooooooo don't miss all that Mickey Mouse stuff
|
UK ones will be threaded. I've been thinking about a r/h cocking modification, and have gone ahead and ordered some new hacksaw blades |
You might want to devise a better cocking handle as well or you'll suffer from a severe case of 'Steyr Finger'. |
|
They dont do it for me, had a go with one about 8 years ago but its not for me. But anyone who does get one I hope you enjoy them, its good to see another manufacture recognising the needs of our market Its funny. I saw a deact one for sale a couple of months ago for £1600

As far as I know they were originaly designed for the Austrian civil market but it's still good news. |
| Anyone know the current Austrian gun laws? I was just reading an article (undated) that said that rifles were freely available with no licence... Linky |
