Interesting bit of history.  The narrator mentions the WWII British military contracted African big game hunters from the U.K. to teach stalking and a one shot, one kill technique to counter German snipers.

Taken from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, one of my most often played "feel good when the evil German gets it" films........

Allan Quatermain: "Automatic rifles. Who in God's name has automatic rifles?"

Elderly Hunter: "Dashed unsporting. Probably Belgian."

I've got one on mine, but getting a reasonably priced one is a joke....

Fortmeier were my first choice because of the relatively low price, this price doubled once imported to the UK.

Then the LAR Grizzly, they won't export..

Barrett is a none starter also due to export restrictions..

Still thinking about a second hand Hecate II, PGM seem very keen to sell over the counter.... New on a bit steep at 7500 Euros

I'll get one before my renewal is up, making had a day with the FCSA at Warcop, I was bitten.....

Are there different export restrictions from the US for .50's compared to other rifles?

I would imagine that any export restrictions with Barrett stam from the fact that they are a supplier of Military weapons.

As for the other American .50 manufacturers, it's probably just a case of asitsabroadwecantbebothereditis

Suprised no-ones mentioned these guys yet?

ferret50.com/ferret50_conversion.html

An AR based .50cal conversion, and they do ship to the UK.

I've shot Swiss Pete's .50 a couple of times, very little recoil due to efficient muzzlebrake.
I think it was designed by the same guys who build the PGM rifles.

FCSA members can get them at a discount  from £3300-£4500, depending on spec etc.
If I was after a .50, I'd be in for one of these....AMSD

Its the .50 running costs that put me off, for now......

They are well within my price range at the minute, if I was to "collect", but I vaguely remember getting a knock back email from them a while back...... at present exchange rates you're looking at less that £1700 for a .50 upper....

Amen..... Lot of lethargy about, took LAR a week to respond.... No reply from Barrett.... Heinrich Fortmeier is a ghost....

I still get emails from PGM asking if I have made up my mind????

To look at the Steyr and Formeier side by side, they could have been made in the same factory.... Only the Fortmeier (now marketed by Global Rifle) was £1500 to buy over the counter in Germany??

so why not buy it from Germany? As we are all happy clappy Europeans now, you will not have to pay any import taxes.
A guide to importing into the UK is here under 'EU Gun Law' This is Roedale Precision, a outfit in Germany run by an ex-squaddie. Tell him I sent you.

Would love to but old Heinrich has signed an exclusive deal with Global Rilfe (Fortmeier) to sell them through them (don't know whether this is still the case as gave up chasing / faxing him).  One shooter that I know of bought his direct from Fortmeier and paid £1500 on the barrel head... Then the counter closed for business....

Just watched the Vid.
The British guy is the Curator of the Pattern Room and the Barrett he is demonstrating is actually one of the prototypes.
The Pattern Room actually have prototype #0001.
I was lucky enough to visit there a few years ago and have pics of that very rifle and a load of others.

Must post them someday
