Just been looking at a few of these, do we have a supplier in the u.k. ( Matt, do you do these aswell ? ) has anyone fired one ?

I'll be looking for a new .308/.243 next year and this might be the way to go if we can get them. i believe you can just get the .243upper and slap it straight onto the AR15 lower with no mods ( should save a bit of cash )

( get my hopes up and i bet we cant get them )

We can get them.

Fat bob does them even, they are THAT common.

Personally, I think they are not very nice. A decent .308 for that money would be a Remington 700 based rifle.

If i order one now from fat bob i'll have a couple of years to save up before he delivers

I like the AR look, thats why i was thinking about it, a nice heavy barrel for some good accurate shooting but still looking like an AR

I'll look into it more in the new year

Southern Gun does them, but to be honest they only ever imported 25 and will not be getting any more.
They have only about 5 left.
No, you can't fit them to an AR15 lower as they are a bigger design and are not compatible.

I know a couple of people that have them, they're OK but as Elucidate says....a std bolt gun would be a far better bet. Besides, they're heavy.

Have I shot any?? Yes, I rebuilt a badly made one for one of our club members and it now shoots they way it was always meant to.

+1
i have a remi 700p with an AI stock. A guy at the range has an AR10 ( fat Bobajob )and when I say it's an absolute bastard to extract most cases thats an understatement. Seems OK only on lapua's.Not sure how it shoots, he's always too tired trying to get the next round in to care.

I'm getting the general gist of things here

Maybe i'll steer clear of the AR10 or maybe i'll do what i always do ( not listen to advice and get one, then winge when it's a piece of old tosh ! ).

Cheers for the advice guys

Steve

Maybe save up all my pennies and get a unique alpine tpg 1 ( now thats one sweet rifle )

Have put 10 rounds thru a BFB AR10 at Stanta and enjoyed it incredibly as it saved me from having to go for an upper body workout at the gym....Avoid!

Never seen an AR10 in the flesh, but have previously heard of hard exdtraction issues....

I'd go with a bolt gun for .308 too....I've got a Sako TRG-22.....link here

Large muzzle brake always attracts attention

cheers

The extraction issues can be worked out with some judicial chamber work with the correct size reamer.
It doesn't take long and is easy to do.
But the main extraction problems lie in two main area's

1) The AR design doesn't have primary extraction. For those who don't know, this is the process of breaking the cases seal with the chamber wall. In these instances the problem lies in the neck clearance and not in the case body area.
A bolt gun acheives this primary extraction by the process of turning and unlocking the bolt.
With the AR, it's the rearward travel of the bolt carrier that forces the bolt to turn thru 22 degrees and unlock the lugs. If the seal between case and chamber is too tight, the carrier wont be able to move far enough rearward to permit the bolt to rotate. Hence, extraction problems. This is why UK spec guns work best with generous chambers.
It's all a compromise.

2) The other problem lies with the shooter who having laid out the best part of £18oo or so for his dream wondergun and then proceeds to feed it with the cheapest, poorest quality, over-pressured surplus ammunition he can get his hands on which is usually called RG and then insists on telling everyone that it is Black Spot sniper ammo and ideally suited to his chamber (even though he doesn't know what chamber he has) and is what the SAS snipers use in Iraq, even though everyone can see the scratches and tarnishing left on the brass by the GPMG links .

Either reload for the fucker or get another gun

Oberland Arms do not have Magpul stocks.
Try going to their website and getting that stock.
It's not even in production yet. Only a few demo models have been sent out to a handful of dealers in the US for evaluation.

As Mark says the main problem with this rifle is the primary extraction and putting shite surplus ammo through them. I've had similar problems with my M21, it just wont look at surplus, so gets fed a diet of 168g sierras with 43g of RL 15 behind them.

To be honest if I was to buy one of these I would get it with a 24" tube in  260rem and start loading for it, then go and shoot some incredibly small groups at very long range.

Regardless of what rifle i choose/can afford i'll be reloading my own ammo, i've only recently been reloading for the .223 and i'm very happy with the results.

Theres some satisfaction from shooting ammo you've loaded yourself !

Unless you load the heads in to far and turn all your new cases into banana shapes ( which i never " Honest " ! ) it's amazing what a millimeter difference can do

"Hi,

just contact me again in 4 weeks with your order -
complete adress and credit card with expiration date.

You should have it before X-mas if the Americans stick to their promises.

Thanks & Good nite

I seem to remember a fig 11 at 1300 yards that went down and stayed down from my .260 rem (OK its actually built on a rem 700 with an ASICS stock) Then the one at 1100 yards that just kept going up and down every shot bar 2, as well as out shooting the .338 Lap mag at 900 yards. What more can I say!!!

I own Glock's, I don't own a H&K. I found that I always hit low with the USP family of weapon's. Probably due to shooting Glock's for so long, that I can't use a normal handgun trigger

My German mate called me last night to tell me that he has got his AR10, and we should go down the range in the next couple of week's to give it a whirl, (or words to that efect). I'll let you know how it went.
