Here's some pics of some guns that you might find interesting
These were taken at the Pattern Room when it was in Nottingham

This is the Enfield EM1. Calibre was .280.
This is the only one in existence, and was, I believe, the first Bullpup.
Alas, it was never manufactured as the US forced NATO to accept 7.62 as the standard cartridge

This is the EM2, the EM1's successor. Cal 4.85mm

This is a M16 in 4.85mm Cal.
The British were the first nation to propose the SCHV concept.
SCHV= Small Calibre, High Velocity.
It was never adopoted.

This is a Springfield M1903 fitted with a Pederson device.
This was a set of working parts that was fitted to the rifle and enabled it to shoot a special .30 type of pistol style ammo in Semi-auto. It's role was for trench clearing.
There are believed to be only 17 of these rifles in existence.

These pics are of an AR10 that was modified to be belt fed

The Pattern room has over 12,000 working firearms. A vast majority of which are the original prototypes.
They even have the HK G11 caseless ammo rifle.

It is being relocated to Leeds and will hopefully reopen later this year.
It's a must see for anyone who is interested in firearms

And now the Americans have come up with their new wonder cartridge for military rifles… the 6.8mm SPC…  nothing like reinventing the wheel 55 years later.

Nice pictures!

Keep with the times Vito!

They binned the 6.8SPC tests ages ago!

The talk now is of 6.5mm tests....

So after a few more designs they will be back to 5.56…

Of course they could just stick with 5.56, adopt a 20" barrel and learn to shoot straight!

OK here's some more pics.

Machine Guns (There were literally hundreds)

HK21 cutaway

HK MP5 w/grenade launcher

Diemaco C8 (I think)

HK G36k

More SMG's

Twin barrelled thingy

DeLisle .45ACP suppressed Enfield

P14 Sniper rifle

RPG's

Bren Guns and Breda's

40mm GMG

Vickers .303

British made and improved M2. This has a quick change barrel

The original Barret .50 (the prototype)

Twin Maxim's ??

MG42 on Lafayette mount

Twin MG34's

Minigun

And finally, rocket launchers.
In the mid '90's, the IRA fired a rocket at the MI6 building in London. Once the police had identified what type of missile was fired, they discovered that the pattern Room had a similar one. That's why there is a gap in the display below. They borrowed it.

Hope you enjoyed the pics

Very nice weapons there. Did you notice in your "SMG wall" photo there appear to be some Sterling SMGs converted into "E11 stormtrooper rifles" for use in the film "Star Wars"? (makes sense since most of Star Wars was filmed in the UK)

Anyone been to the Royal Armouries at Leeds?  Is it along the same lines?

OK

How does one get into these places?....

Invite/contacts/cost etc etc

Looks very interesting.

There are a small selection of older pistols and rifles in the Welsh Museum of Life which always gets my attention.

Taffy

Does ARFCom membership carry any weight getting inot these places

Just emailed them for details etc.  Lot of rules including "No Flash Photography"........ bit of a bugger if it's poorly lit?

It doesn't cost anything to get in, but you have to apply.
The collection at the Royal Armouries is not open yet, but will be later this year apparently.

Apply to visit as a club etc.

It's worth it. There's over 12,000 firearms, and you can play with them all
It's the finest collection in the world and it's right on our doorstep

Cheers Mark, will put it to the mob up here and see if I can drum up interest.  I would jump at the chance to look / play with a collection that size.......

Back in the 90's the IRA fired a missile at the MI6 building on the Thames (you might remember it).
When the feds identified what type of missile was used, they discovered that the Pattern room had one, so they borrowed it for forensics and evidence etc
