Good afternoon! I need some help making a decision. The company I work for is closing it's operations in Oregon, and I've been scheduled to be layed-off on 06-30-05. I've known this was coming for well over a year now, so it's no big surprise. Today, I was formally offered a position with the company in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm still in the process of negotiating the deal, but I'm not under any pressure to accept it - if I turn down the transfer offer, I still retain my severance package, and will be able to take advantage of training money via the Trade Act deal, so I've got options. All personal and financial considerations aside, what I want from you folks are reasons to leave Oregon, and benefits to moving to New Mexico. Thanks in advance! |

Well the big thing is the climate. You won't have to deal with rain, snow, or much cold temps. Nothing like you see in up in OR. Highs run in the low to mid 90s in the summer. Can hit 100 sometimes. Winters are VERY mild. I kinda like Albuquerque. It can be a rough town, sure. Just stay in the areas you belong in and away from the southeast area. Great zoo/aquarium, great AAA baseball, college basketball, shopping, skiing, hiking, rafting, etc...... Lots of concerts, events, etc.. Downtown has/is undergone a major overhaul to be cleaner, nicer, etc. Casinos everywhere (if you like them). The casinos bring in LOTS of entertainment options..concerts, comedy, etc. Kinda lacking, for it's size, when it comes to gun shops. Does have a pretty nice indoor range, and other outdoor ranges too. If I could get a real-good paying job, I might move there. I might live in the far NW side of town or Rio Rancho/Corrales area. We spend alot of three day weekends in Alb. Also, if you care, Alb. has what is widely considered to be one of the best SWAT units in the world. They are also one of the most active. They average a callout per day. I fyou have more specific questions, please shoot away. |
