I can come up with better excuses than this. I got promoted earlier in the summer and got all the perks that came with it including doubling my work load.

what is this and why should i go? ![]() It is awesome filled awesomeness that allows for people like you and I to walk around with "That guy had a bunch of cigarettes put out on him!!" type battle scars from the simunition rounds you will take from the counter terrorism ninjas-in-training. There is also a super-badass cat that may or may not help with long range spotting. Do it. |

Quoted: I'd be all over this if someone could round up an M249 with .223 simunition I could use, and some night vision. Getting popped with the .223 sim while you're lobbing 9mm sim back.... just sucks. . . . Be more sneaky. A mag dump of 9mm sims to the back of an unpadded thigh will make em dance :) |

So they give the volunteers 9mm pistols only, while the counter terrorism ninja guys have rifles? 9mm ARs. They run their issue rifles with conversion kits generally. This. The 9mm ARs use special mags though, that are pretty similar to a standard 30rd 556 mag. Its really good training as OPFOR. Doing reloads or clearing malfunctions under pressure, ie rounds coming at you, opens up a whole new world of stress. Plus you get a much better understanding of what does and doesn't work in the real world. Not bagging on any trainer or any program, but there's some popular stuff out there that will get you shot up in a hurry if you don't learn to adapt to it to the situation. Also if you bring your own belt/rack/plate carrier/whatever you'll get a good idea of how it all works with the rest of your getup. I change something on my gear almost every time I go down there, trying to get it all tuned in just right. I could go on and on. Short story: you help good guys get good training, they help you get good training back. |
|
Yes, I agree... There is absolutely no substitute for good training.
Take the latest event. The shooting in the Navy yard was bad, but could have been much worse, had officers not had good training. The active shooter was removed due to a DC Police Officer and a US Park Police Officer teaming up and getting into it, they "kept moving".... Bringing officers from various agencies together, forming teams, made a difference. Here's a snippit from the CBS news about it: CBS link Somehow, I don't think they learned it from magpul videos..... |

One Tuesday night there was a new volunteer having problems getting a mag seated. Flashlights from above illuminate the area to help him. I decide to wander back to try and help. About the time I get around a corner I see Mr. new guy trying to slam a mag home only to miss the magwell, hit his wrist on the magwell and thus throw his loaded mag about 4 feet above his head. The response from above was "THIS IS LIKE A F####N MAGPUL VIDEO IN HERE!" and the lights go off. Unwilling to be tainted by such smoothness I returned to my dark corner and tried to laugh quietly. |

Like cowboy said, it will give you a good idea of where you stack up with everything: gear, fitness, tactical awareness, etc., etc.. You'll leave there and have a whole new outlook on what you wish to accomplish and how to improve. Plus, if you can run and shoot and change shitty mags in the pitch-black, deafening hell they create, I'm convinced you can pretty well do it anywhere. And it's free!! Hell, they give you the rifle and ammo. All you have to do it show up and play hard. I'd do it every opportunity if I were in-state. Quoted:

Is it me, or does this same structure not exist at the local level with regards to school shootings, and why not? Seems (without knowing anything about it) that they stage outside and await SWAT, and by that time the shooter's done all he came to do. |

Night 1 ...
What a great night. The days when only a few people came out to RP seem to be over, the secret is out. Somebody's talkin' about fight club.....
We had a big turn out tonight, and everyone I heard had a blast, especially the new guys. The young guys with the still good knees, and quick reflexes, really get around the house. I feel that us old dogs are almost to a time to find a place on the cat walk.. With the size of the RP pool, things went a little different than in the past. I would go into detail, but then I would get the NDA whack, followed by the Ninja boot, and the ban hammer. Needless to say, the only thing I can bitch about is now we really need a bigger RP shack....
For me, I is back at the twisted chicken inn, munchin' on my Stouffer's microwaved wonder, and watchin' the Walkin Dead by 11:15 PM, and that's all right with me.. Cheerrs, CT |
