Update: Put in an offer on a house in Bentonville.

Now, if only I had a job lined up.....

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm soon to be headed back to NWA where I was born and raised. Looking at living in the Rogers/Bentonville area.

What should someone who has been away for the last 12 years know about the area?

Where to look for jobs/what areas to not live in/etc.?

Well, traffic is a bitch... At lunch time... On a sunny day.

Other than that, there has been a shit ton of development both commercially and residentially. But I would say that Rogers/Bville still have relatively small town feel. Crime is petty comparative to central Arkansas.

Its a damn mecca if your into motorcycling.

You can buy my house!
First, if you havent been back in 12 years, then prepare for things to look very different. Rogers has exploded around the 540 corrodor. Bentonville is doing its part, but still catering to the walmart crowd. It is still an awesome place to live. The hopsitals are getting a lot better, and the area is looking forward.

I've been back, just not for long periods of time. Didn't really have time to get out and explore to see what had changed.

It's changed a lot.

I would stay on the west side of 540 if you can.  Much better throughout all of NWA.

Like the others have said, tons of growth in NWA. Avoid I-540 if possible for morrning and evening commutes, the traffic is reallybad, but they are going to add another north and south bound lane from Fayetteville to Bentonville. I lived in NWA for 20 years now, moved here all the way from Fort Smith lol, and have lived in Fayetteville, Elkins, and Springdale. Avoid Springdale at all costs. I am in the process of buying a new house in Rogers on west side of 540, so if you buy, stay on the west side. I work at Mercy and we have tons of nursing jobs available. Also, construction has picked way up again.

That bums me out about Springdale. That's "home".

Any tips or tricks for getting hired at Walmart corporate?

Northwest Springdale on the east side of 540 is still pretty nice.  West of 540 is good too.  But the rest of it has turned into a shit hole.  I've lived in Farmington, east Springdale, Wesley, and now Tontitown.  We really like Tontitown.

I always liked Tontitown. Is the Grape Festival still being held every year?

Yep.  Lived here for 25 years and never been though.

Anyone with experience as to the hiring processes for Walmart corporate, JB Hunt, and/or Tyson?
