Prompted somewhat by the "Coming home" thread, what are some good places to eat that aren't over hyped?
BBQ: We have been eating at Smokin' Joes for decades, but lately they seem kind of bleh. We recently tried the Whole Hog Cafe and it might be worth a second trip - not sure yet. Pseudo Messican: We have been eating at a little place named Sabores. So far, so good. Las Fajitas, Las Palmas, Acambarros, Marias, et al have been nixed for various reasons over the years. Italian: Bella Napoli, but haven't been there in a couple of years. Sushi: Sushi King What do you like? |

For BBQ, I like Smokin' Joes and Whole Hog. I also liked Y BBQ, but it closed. Sonny's in Springdale is good too. Really large portions and they come with a ginger salad that I can't ever get enough of. For Italian, Mama Z's and Guidos, both in Tontitown. Sushi: |

In Fayetteville: BBQ: Whole Hog Cafe any day Italian: Geraldi's or Pesto Mexican: Burrito Loco hands down Thai: Thep Thai (esan in springdale is a close runner up) Pizza: Mellow Mushroom Moving to Rogers/Bentonville: Flying Fish is great, as is Table Mesa. Theo's is always wonderful if you have the coin. |

These are my favorite places in NWA. BBQ: FamouS Daves in Rogers Mexicam: Auebellos in Rogers Italian: Joe's Italian Grill on Sunset in Springdale I'll admit, Joe's was good. But if you ever see the kitchen, you would never go back. Same goes for Mexico Viejo in Fayetteville. |

Farrell's (hangover burger is the bomb) - Fayetteville 4. Art's place (burger+fries+beer=$5.50, but its smokey as fuck in there) - Fayetteville BBQ (not ribs, though) 1. Penguin Eds (so, so) - Fayetteville 2. Whole Hog (meh) - Fayetteville Pizza: 1. Geraldi's - Fayetteville 2. Spiedini - Fayetteville 3. Mellow Mushroom - Fayetteville 4. Tim's East is not bad (crust is odd, but my wife likes it) - Fayetteville 5. Damgoode Pies is ok, if you don't mind the fucking hipsters - Fayetteville Sandwiches: 1. Green Submarine - Fayetteville 2. Hammontree's is ok - Fayetteville Soul-food: 1. Mama Dean's (bring your f'ing appetite) - Fayetteville Mejican: 1. Burrito Loco - Fayetteville Tex-Mex: 1. Mariachi's is actually pretty good - Fayetteville Mediterranean: 1. Petra Cafe - Fayetteville Cajun/N'oleans style: 1. Cafe Rue Orleans is not bad - Fayetteville Wings: 1. not really any good places anymore 2. Foghorn's is so, so - Fayetteville Breakfast: 1. Susan's - Springdale Other/Wildcard: 1. Mermaids (lunch is fantastic and moderately priced) - Fayetteville 2. Flying Burrito - Fayetteville 3. China Cafe - Fayetteville 4. Mojo's - Fayetteville Coffee: 1. Baba Boudan's (they are some liberal cunts in there, but their coffee is fantastic) - Fayetteville |

Mexican food: Rogers Las Palmas off of 2nd south of Walnut.......mmmmmmm carne asada Springdale Mojitos Great fajitas! Kent is it like back home? Not quite..... Las Palmas is close to it.. Purple Burrito is just like the small shops. las Palmas is similar to a sit down in SoCal. Mojitos is actually in Fayettville, just up from Target. It is a bit more gringo but still good. |

Mexican food: Rogers Las Palmas off of 2nd south of Walnut.......mmmmmmm carne asada We should try Las Palmas again. When we stopped going there, it wasn't because of the food. The plastic tables and concrete floor made for a very loud environment - not something I am looking for on a Friday evening. That was years ago and it may be better now. We don't eat at Sushi King nearly as much as we used to for the same reason. When they moved, their new suite was much, much louder than their old one. |

They make their own beer now and it can't be missed. The actual brewer used to brew for goose island. Also under pizza, the guidos on 71 just into Springdale next to the cheers liquor store probably has the best pizza in town. There is also gusano's in both bentonville and Fayetteville. Best sushi is probably now at Kobe where northern exposure used to be, which is next to red robin. That's all I have. I know opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and everyone thinks that theirs doesn't stink. Enjoy. |
| I would say Mellow Mushroom Pizza might have just earned my business the next time I am in NWA: http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/pizza-chain-makes-special-delivery-soldier-afghanistan-035216851--abc-news-topstories.html |

Full of hippies and I got deathly sick afterwards, but nobody else I ate with did so I don't think it was the pizza. I'd definitely go back though. |

| If you make it over to Van Buren and are looking for good Italian, check out Frank's. Me and my family had gotten into a habit of going there once a week or so. |

I may be giving out my age on this one but is Goldie's still there on College? Being a poor grad student, that was my fine dining. I'd get a Tex-Mex burger and a few beers. The waiter I always asked for was also in my fraternity so the beer never appeared on the bill.
The pizza place I ate at was about a block from sorority row in an old gas station. Has anyone tried the BBQ at Sassy's Red House? It takes its name from the BBQ sauce they use - Sassy Jones. I ask because Sassy Jones sauces come from my part of the state (Montrose, AR to be exact) and my wife grew up with the Jones' kids. I'm not crazy about their BBQ sauce but their other items are very good. |

Didn't they tear down half of it and make an Andy's Frozen Custard out of it? |

Now, where it was, is a Zaxby's |

There is an AWESOME BBQ place just at the edge of Fayetteville (E of Crossover on Huntsville Rd / Hwy 16), just called 'The Bar-B-Q Place'. Great ribs and really good hard-hickory-smoked chicken wings and legs.
I haven't been there in awhile, though. Not because the food isn't awesome...but because I'm running my own smoker now with a downed hickory! |

Why do people like Pesto Cafe so much? Been there twice and each time was terrible. The place has a nice atmosphere, but the food is just aweful. For good Italian, go to Noodles. Noodles is trash, go to Geraldi's Geraldi's is trash, go to Mama Z's Full disclosure... I've never even heard of Geraldi's
