Deer season is going to be here soon. Got some deer coming in every day close to the house. Hopefully i can put a arrow into a couple of them. Any one else getting ready?

cowboy you have to try a crossbow. there very easy to shoot and use. will add a lot of months to your season and more deer to the freezer. stuck I have one. I just dont have time/desire to bow hunt or use a muzzle loader. I spend the majority of deer season keeping people off our fenced, posted private property. When I do have time to hunt, it has to be quick. |

Quoted: I'm new to Arkansas, so this is my first deer season here. I'm coming from Colorado where public land was everywhere. Any good public land here for deer? Just FYI: Those little brown dogs with the fluffy white tails running around everywhere are what we call deer. |

I hunted in Colorado in the late 70's/early 80's. Never got a Mulie however. I used to hunt in the area around Kremmling. As far as public land I can't really comment as I've never hunted public land here but........I do hear of the stories. So many hunters, so little land!! The way I hear it you might as well forget hunting on public land on the weekends. All you can see is orange, at least during modern gun season. Now bow hunting might be a different story as our season goes to the end of Feb. |
| I guess it all depends on the public land you hunt on. I'm in the LR area so more crowded. You might be able to drive a bit to get to some better public areas. But bubba likes to hunt. We have what's called WMAs(Wildlife Management Areas) here which usually have stricter hunting guidelines over hunting on private land. |

I was afraid of the public land being crowded, but hopefully I will be able to get out during the week and during bow season. Winona WMA Lots of space - not too crowded most of the time. The Quachita Mountains (well - for AR they're mountains...) are really nice this time of year. The deer (and black bear & turkey) are there, but can be tricky to get right where you want them sometimes. You can get there inside of 45 minutes from West Little Rock, and most of the roads are maintained well enough that you don't need a 4x4 to get around - if you pay attention. I've killed whitetail & turkey there, and a buddy has killed bear there as well. I was out there all yesterday with my crossbow, but the deer were laying pretty low (because a bunch of city dumbasses were having some sort of cross county race / marathon thing all damn day - extra vehicle traffic, and people walking or jogging all over the damn place.) I was hoping one of their stupid, spandex wearing asses would get mauled by a frickin' bear. Oh well, it was still better than the best day working. Here's a view from spring turkey season...

i got a doe today. not big but will be good meat for the freezer. Was in a blind with one of my ten year olds. dropped her in her tracks. did not make it 5 feet and dead in 5-10 seconds at the most. Was nice to have one of my boys out there with me. stuck Nice! |

I saw one doe, but too far out for my crossbow. I've had to console myself with shooting squirrels until I can get back out in the woods. Declaring war on squirrels |
