I don't post here much, but just thought I would share my experience with you about the new VETS Shooting Center in Bald Knob.
I just joined their club, it's $100.00 for one year for you and your family. They have numerous ranges for rifle and pistol, and for you shotgunners, they are developing a range for shooting clay pigeons. I'm not sure about all the disciplines of shotgunning they are going to provide for though. I'm a long time service rifle shooter, and I also shoot NRA HighPower, so the rifle range is what really appeals to me. Their long range is 850 yards. First target is 300, and goes out to 850 yards. Inside of this are steel targets at varying ranges and sizes, and this course of fire is set up for tactical scoped rifles. I shot this course of fire today with an LRB M14, and I was quite surprised at how well I did at 850! Shot slinged up prone, no scope. Actually started with the 300 to verify my zero.... shot the 300 yarder until I knocked enough paint off that I couldn't index my front sight on the target anymore, then went to the 540, unti I did the same number on the paint, and then thought what the heck, I'm going for 850, target 20" X 24"! Of course when I went to the other targets I had to raise my rear sight quite a few MOA. Hammered the 850 more times than not out of 20 rounds, and I was quite pleased with the results. During this time one of the owners was spotting for me, and he did quite well at that...he should, he's a former U.S. Army Sniper and a Combat Vet of Iraq. My Son shot his Match AR at 300 yards, target was a 7"X 10", he shot prone, and really hammered the heck out of it! My main reason for posting is just to put out the word about the VETS Shooting Center, this is a great growing facility and is manned by some really fine men, two brothers and a good friend of theirs and all three U.S. Army Combat Veterans of Iraq! The two brothers did contract work for Blackwater as well. Check out www.Vetsshootingcenter.com for more details! |

Just got back frrom VETS and all I can say is it is really worth it. The rifle and pistol ranges are nice. The 4 bay pistol/carbine pits is very nice. the 850yrd unknown distance range is incredible. The people who run the range are incredible people, I am exited to have a new range to call home. Oh and my 223 AR would only consistently ring steel at 650ish |
| I went with Dirty down to VETS, and everything he said is true. It is an awesome range ran by an excellent group of guys. Well worth every penny I spent there. In my opinion, for just starting out this range is better than Don's, Mayflower, and Cabot Guns and Ammo. The Pro shop actually has stuff that I want/need, and their prices are lower than anyone else in the area, as far as reloading goes. I live in Cabot, and yeah its like 40 miles away, but I would rather drive that far and do business with people that give a damn and have a clue about shooting, something that is lacking in the Cabot area. Anyhow if you get a chance, stop by and take a look, I would bet you will be dropping the membership dues as quickly as I did. |

I'm 50 miles north in Charlotte, for long range and other organized activities I will be going to VETS. I have my own 400 yard range, but that's not enough for me to stretch my M14's and M1's out. I like having to use my come ups and windage adjustments at the longer range.
The men at VETS are the real McCoy, I believe they will do well there! |
