recently I was leaving a resturant and I saw a young man of mid-east heritage (bushy hair and face too) wearing a t-shirt with the word "infidel" across the front . under that was a line of arabic writing. should I have been offended? being an old guy I don't keep up with the trendy stuff.

Many of us here have the same shirt, its a good "flag" for saying that you are what is considered a "non-beleiver" in islam.

The arabic is "kafir" or "kafeer" depending in the translator and is almost that same message but in arabic.

Infidel and kafir are not 1:1 translations. Its my understanding that the arabic is quite a bit more insulting than "infidel" to your average islamic fundamentalist.

We have at least one person around here that will know better than myself, but that's my understanding.

current trend believes it means "not muslim"  and is a muslim word

real meaning " one without faith " and it is an English word

so, for a lot of the folks trying to look trendy, it often means a lot more and a lot differently than they think
