ok I need some advice for the long term storage of:
Cars gun ammo gimme some ideas |

bring it to my house
everything will store fine except the ammo, we may lose a few thousand rounds in the storage process define your version of "long term storage" Cars: ain't happening unless you have the ability to replace every single rubber and plastic part as well as every wire. I suppose a total bag seal in a dark, climate controlled bldg would work for a while, but all the plastic will still be outgassing, etc. You actually have to "use" a vehicle to keep it up. Guns: cosmoline inside and out, wrap in oil paper, then plastic, then shrinkydink, think WWI (and pre) Mausers that are being sold, as well as all the chicom guns. Also store a gallon of kerosene and 4 rolls of paper towels to clean each one Ammo: keep it dry and it'll shoot damn near forever. I've shot plenty of WWII ammo. I don't buy into all the shrinkydink, oxy absorb, grease etc etc for ammo. USGI Ammo Cans, 1 ea, work damn fine IMHO. |

Guns and ammo will be fine for a year or 2 with minimal effort. Oil the guns down good and stick in the safe. Keep the ammo in dry ammo cans. You'll be good to go. I've had guns sit out much longer than that, in a (finished) basement with little to no issue.
Cars... About the best you can do is take the tires off and keep it off the ground, and disconnect the battery. You'll still have to give it some TLC even after the 6 months I imagine. I'm not as much of a car guy as some of the guys here, so maybe somebody will have a better idea. |

6-18mos or so, I'd just oil the guns good and put em in a safe
ammo goes in ammocans mentioned above as far as auto, I'd have someone I trust drive it 5-10miles once each month keeping it washed every other month and store it in the shade or inside a garage if possible |

As some here know, my dad is a contractor working in all the shit holes around the world. Before he leaves for a 12 month stint, he brings all his guns & ammo to me. That being said, he does not keep a expensive vehicle sitting around. He's not the kind of person to worry to much about flat places on tires after sitting for months. He would just end up buying new tires if that became problem. Oh, and since he currently lives in an apartment complex, he also leaves his truck outside. But covered by a car cover like stated earlier. If it were a vehicle worth more than 5k, it would be a different story.
ETA: Meant to add, that he also add fuel stabilizer to his tank before heading out. |
