I am all stocked up on practical/tactical pistols (S&W M&Ps).

I don't have anything in .45 acp. I like 1911s for the nostalgia factor and most happen to shoot .45 acp. I don't envision the pistol being employed in a role other than safe queen, the occational trip to the range, and could be put into a defensive role in a pinch (hopefully function reliably).

The pistol that has really caught my eye is the Kimber Raptor Pro in Stainless Steel. Looks like this.

What are the HTF opinion on 1911s? What do you have and what are your experiences?

Or should I just get the Sig P220?

Kimber makes nice stuff and I have a Kimber Eclipse Customer II. However knowing what I know now I would not continue to support Kimber. They have more than on one occasion stated that they have no reason to support the competition shooting sports by donate to matches and the likes. There are several companies out there that make just as good a product if not better that truly supports the shooting sports. First one that comes to mind is Springfield. If you truly want a work of art then look for a Rock River!

I had an Eclipse Custom II as well.  Now I have another reason to be glad I got rid of mine.

That and the fact that it jammed all the time.

Lol, I know the feeling, this new oil field job is stomping our asses, we're losing one person every 5 days only counting those that quit, never mind injury.

I bought my Kimber Custom II new in 2001, and have had nothing but good luck with it.  Not to mention it is extremely accurate.

I would guess it has had approx 10k rounds through it and everything is still bone stock.  I have not experienced any of the jamming issues many others have talked about.

The Kimber it center left.

I have 4 1911s. Two Springfield, One Norinco and one Argentine Sistema. In addition, I have one Argentine Ballaster Molina.

In regard to combat accuracy and reliability, I would, and do trust all of my 1911s for every day carry. None are match winners for accuracy, but none would embarrass me either.

All are fed by inexpensive mags. I can and do drop them without any concern during training sessions.

ETA: A Sig 220 is a good pistol. The cost of mags would, and has deterred me from buying one. Same with the hk 45 USP.

I do stand corrected. It was Bama that was shooting the M&P and Spikes was shooting his (now mine) G34. And it was in fact 25 & 50yds
