Ok I know this will sound crazy especially after the Times Square episode but this is true.

My buddy is always buying and selling stuff, trucks, jeeps, four wheelers, dirt bikes, etc.  He buys an Isuzu pup truck last week with a clutch problem.  He's had them before and knows what the problem is and fixes it and puts it on Craigslist to resell. This morning at about 0600 he gets a call from an individual with a middle eastern accent asking about the truck.

After talking to him for a few minutes, it comes out the guy is in New York and of course my buddy is skeptical and trys to wind up the conversation.  Well the guy offers $200 over what's he's asking and asks if my buddy has paypal. Buddy lies and says no hoping it will end the conversation and deal but guy says he will mail him cash in a box. .

After that buddy just basically says he's not gonna sell it and guys says, are you descriminating against me? Buddy says "explicit language" and hangs up.

So is this something to report or am I overreacting? If so, who do we call?

I'm thinking most all  my non family calls at 6am start and end with " Click "

there are plenty of folks that have nothing better to do than call people. The NY guy may have just been jerking him around. IMHO if he couldn't find the same vehicle in NY, then he's an idiot when you consider transportation costs etc

That'd be over a grand IF he could get it on as a partial. 2500+ otherwise

See, that's what I thought.   It's just weird he would offer $200 over asking price plus shipping for an 81? Isuzu pup. It is a diesel though but still.  Just shady to me.

It was a scam. I dont remember the details, but I read about a few similar stories in TN awhile back.

Basically he was gonna end up with your truck, your money and stick you for the hauling fee.

"middle eastern' accent being from NY were 90% chance coincidence.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^   !!! THIS !!!   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Craigslist * SCAM * for sure - Happened to a lady in OKC area and another in Tulsa -

IIRC - One was wedding/engagement/diamond jewelry - the other was loose diamonds -

" THEY " ALWAYS WANT YOUR " PAYPAL " ACCT # and offer CA$H and/or bonuses -

"middle eastern accent" and from NY seems to be the "norm"

KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY & YOUR HATCHET SHARP

Thats kinda what i was thinkin but then I thought what was the people thinking who sold the truck to this
asshat who tried to blow up Times Square.

Like I said, if its a typical scam, so be it, but if it could be more, dont want it on my conscience.

Why would anyone be stupid enough to put the phone number on craigs list?
