some of you know how bad my bates boots did climbing pinnacle, they gave me several blisters and wore a hole through my sock on the little right toe and peeled a layer of skin back-yes it sucked quite a bit.

since i have off size feet i need to try them on before buying, need recommendations for boots for rocky trails, think pinnacle park and 7 hollows at petit jean.  i would prefer a combat type boot but what ever will work.

more importantly where could i try them on locally

yes dan i remember a-solo

edit: is vibram good at holding traction on angled rocks, walking up and down slanted rock surfaces

My bates mojave's have a vibram sole.  Very tough, but stiff. I'll let you know more once they're fully broken in.

Danner would be my recommendation for serious boots.

Used to be spec ops issue. Don't know if they still are.  But they are the real deal.

i had a pair of whites smoke jumper boots. they look at ur feet and do all the lengths and widths and send the info off to get the right size. then they come in and they try them on to make sure all is right. there a great boot and i put a lot of miles in the mtns with them on. worth the extra money. and if u wear them out they can re build them for u

stuck

20 years in the Army and 10 years as a cop.......Danners!!!

My first pair (Ft. Lewis') I bought in 83...they've been resoled three times and are still in my closet, ready for wear...I have several diferent pairs of Danners...in fact I have a pair on now...

I found Cruse to be a bit pricey...

My gig as a FedEx guy has me out in all kinds of shitty weather and for the past year I've worn Danner Striker II 45 GTXs. They're well made, comfortable and Gore Tex lined and my feet have not been wet once. They're all black and, for my taste they are a little to tacticool for hiking, but I've never had any problems with traction and Danner has plenty of other models to choose from.

As far as sizing goes, my foot is wide and I need a 10.5 EE in a New Balance shoe so I tried the same size in the Danner boot and it worked perfectly. The last time I was in Cruze they had the Strikers like I have, but all they stocked were medium widths.

Oden, ever thought about scuba diving? You could save money by not having to buy fins...

Another vote for Danner.
It's all I ever buy for now; for work to outdoor to everyday wear.
My favorite is the Radical 452 GTX; light and versatile hiker.

Another Danner vote here. I use the logger model for climbing towers. Normally early in the morning the dew has everything wet and the steel can be quite slippery. The Vibram sticks pretty good. They are light weight for such a HD boot.

I've had a couple pairs of the Oakley Assault Boots.  They are very light and comfortable.  Pretty aggressive tread pattern could be good for climbing.  The first pair I had was when they first came out a few years ago.  These were the best.  No break-in required.  The second pair was a little stiffer out of the box, and not quite as comfortable over-all...but have been a little more durable.

Oakley boots

I've also got a pair of  black Nike SFB (Special Forces Boots).  These are like desert combat boots with a rough leather lower.  The bottom of the boot is essentially a running shoe.  VERY Light, VERY comfortable.  Not for wet environments, they have vents two vents on each side.  I wear these a lot at work and they are great.

NIKE SFB boots

I've also got a pair of Lowa boots (Seeker GoreTex) that I wear at work.  They were expensive (almost $300), but man are they comfortable.  These are the most well constructed boots I've ever seen or worn.  The kind of boots that last forever with proper care.

LOWA BOOTS.COM

As you can see, I am a boot whore.  I'm also a big fan of Merrell shoes and boots.  They are light, rugged, and very comfortable.
