I have several NFA items and recently heard I am supposed to have them registered with either the AGs office or the ASP.
Anyone know the facts??

That would be news to me. I don't believe that statement is accurate.

CP,
Where did you hear that? I don't think it's true. If you're moving into the state you do need to notify the ATFE (I'm sure you knew that).

I have been here all my 52 years.
I heard it from the man I bought my first MAC from back in 1976.
$110 as I remember.
He has been out of the NFA business for 20 years but says there was this reg that no one was aware of or observed.
He has been a KBR contractor in Iraq for several yrs now and is moving back to this area for retirement. He asked me if it was still in effect and i told him I had never heard of it.

I sent an email to the AG's office today.
I will post their answer.
Shit, I hope there is not one.

If they give you a bad answer, dont post it

I keed....

I'm 99.8% sure that such a requirement doesn't exsist right now. Maybe it did back then? I'll ask my class 3 guy next time I'm in there and maybe dig through the code when I have more free time.

I have never heard of such a requirement for NFA items.  I know it is not something that we in the police dept. would check.  The ATF is the only governing body that we are concerned with.  If there is something with the AG's office, it will be news to me.

There is a reg for registering a very specific type of NFA weapon with the state. The reg was written in the 30's shortly after NFA 34 was adopted. The reg is so specific that at the time, the only weapon that qualified was the 45 cal Thompson. If memory serves, the weapon must fire more than 3 or 5 rounds larger than 30 cal with a single pull of the trigger in order to be registered..

No reply either way to my email to the AG's office.
But that is no surprise since the answer won't help Dustin's gubernatorial aspirations.
What a prick!

The law where you have to register MG's over ,30 caliber was repealed several years ago. I have it printed in a pile of papers somewhere. It can be found if you do an AR. law search. I had this same question when I bought my Reising .45 MG.

It was the Sec State's office it was supposed to be registered with.

repealed it.
