Sorry Folks,

I was "overtaken by events" and couldn't make it Saturday night...first I got off shift at 6 pm, then FrauVuDu put a  tasking on me...anywho, about Apr 4th or 5th I'll be headed to Virginia to start the testing/ training to go to the sandbox as a contractor in Iraq...so the Frau wants me to be hanging around a bit more...I even spent a weekend at Heber without diving (totally feaking out my dive buds)...at this point I'm planning on doing 18 months and then coming back to retire and practice "F.O. Procedures"...more as it comes in...

Cheers,

Lou

Hey Vudu,

So your going over with DynCorp right?

What are you going to be doing if you don't mind me asking?  DynCorp has many different positions they fill every year for contracts in the middle east and other places.

My father has been contracting for DynCorp for going on 7 years straight in 3 different countries in Europe and the middle east.

He loves his work, and says he will not quit until he can't physically do it anymore or they make him quit because of age limitations. LOL, he's hard headed!

He has to go back through the training in Virginia every time he signs a new contract which is usually once a year.  He says its not to terribly bad as long as your are moderately in shape for your age.  This comes from a 55yr old that was 14 years SpecOps, and 12 years LR SWAT.

But you can get a little banged up if your not careful during the training from his accounts of the training in Virginia.

So good luck!

M4geek,

Yep, going with DynCorp...though I may not be as fast as I once was...but I wear the same size trousers I did on active duty...I'm going to be a Police Advisor, I think they call it, 20 years Army, Combat Arms (12B/Z Combat Engineer), mostly Airborne units...3 with 10th Group in Bad Tolz...8.5 years with Pulaski County Sheriff (with three of those in Investigations, 7 years as lead diver in the Water Patrol...I swim religiously and have been running and hitting the BowFlex..March 1st I'll be switching to running with boots, body armor and my "little black stick of death and oh yeah, a reflective road guard vest that says Sheriff front and back....luckily my neighbors are used to seeing me do weird shit...is your Dad in Iraq now?

Vudu,

Sounds like you have kept in shape, good for you!

If you worked PCSD for 8.5yrs, you may know my father. He spent 23 years as a LR police officer as well as his years in the Army.

Yes he is over in the middle east right now, but I dont know his exact location.  He doesn't really discuss the details of his job with with his family. He has always preferred to keep them seperate.

I am sure you will enjoy that sweet tax break that you will be getting!!

...I won't know where exactly I'll be stationed til I get in country...tax break a biggie...having relatives in Europe (Germany) gives me a couch to sleep on and maintaining the out of US status...also a VuDu sponsored family reunion in Costa Rica is being planned as we speak...the goal first of all is to make it back...then retire, write my memoirs, perfect my weizen bier brewing techniques, start my own business (that doesn't require me working everyday) and dive my ass off...work has finally gotten in the way of what I want to do that drastic measures had to be taken...

My ARFCOM "Molon Labe" t-shirt is going with me...

Updates to follow...

Cheers,

Lou

Damn I tried getting on with Dyncorp for IT work but havent heard anything back yet. Vudu I think you will like DynCorp they seem to be a good company. If you visit LF you can get a sense of what the feel is over there. Quite a few HSLD folks over there have been there done that and so on.

I worked for DynCorp in Kosovo in 01-02. They were good to me. They gave me good equipment, good support, and paid me what they said they would when they said they would. If I didn't have small kids, I would work for them again in a heartbeat.
