DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pvt. Nathan Z. Thacker, 18, of Greenbrier, Ark., died Oct. 12 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

He'd been in country only 2 weeks. He'd only been in the army 6 months.

Nate's life was cut short far to early.  He was a high school drop out that had turned his life around, Gotten his GED, and joined the Army.  His family is filled with great people.

I've known some of his family for half my life.  You'll be missed Nate.

Another promising young life cut short by religous fanatics.  Dusty, if you see his family please convey my condolences, and let them know that I, and my family appreciate his service, as well as his sacrifice.
