So, I want to get my son a class for Christmas. He just turned 21 and got his first handgun, and I think the class would be beneficial for him. I remember going through it years ago, and while I hated how long it was, I think he should go through it.
Is there anybody that you fellas can recommend? I cannot remember the guy's name I used, it was back in '99 when we still had to do it for a license, and it was at his home off of Tudor. Good class, had an Anchorage ADA who was a AK Machine Gun member speak for the legal portion. Info appreciated. |

I took mine with alaska tactical a couple years back. I enjoyed it +1 for Alaska Tactical. Very fun course and probably much more training than actually required for the CCL but very beneficial. I consider myself a pretty competent shooter and learned a few things. I recommend it highly. Based on my great experience with his CCL course, I decided to sign up for his pistol and shotgun courses, which were both great as well. |

I do appreciate it.
He has been shooting 1911s and Glocks with me out at Birchwood since he was 8. He has been taking my G23 out with friends camping etc the last couple of years and finally got himself a Gen 4 G19 for his 21. I feel he is competent enough to carry, but ol' dad would sure feel better if he got in front of one of these instructors. Thanks again and I will definitely give them a call |

I haven't taken Alaska Tactical's ACHP class, but have taken others from Steve and his instructors and would suggest them for any training they offer.
I hear Dave Longacre has a good class too, but less emphasis on shooting than Alaska Tactical. But just about everyone else is probably teaching to the minimum round count, not beyond it. Especially in winter. No matter who he takes the class with, I would suggest him taking as many written notes as he can, formulate questions and write them down, then write down the answers too. Ask lots of questions. They won't be stupid questions unless he just doesn't listen, and he is there to learn from the legal and shooting experts. You might start him on a couple of books to prime the brain pump before the class.
