Within 2 years, I was told in October.  One of the companies (Steelhead) that got the back-up generator install contracts for the cell towers filled me in.  We do some work for them.

Update.  Our IT dept told me that we may have Verizon for our company as soon as June 30.  We are predominately Verizon in the lower 48 at all of our locations, and they informed corporate that we could port our numbers to Verizon in June.

Hope that helps.

Supposedly they have been quietly building infrastructure for the last year.  My mom is always looking for updates too.  She spoke with a guy in palmer who was leasing land for an antenna.  The normal customer service people are still in the dark.

Awesome! I have a Verizon Mifi Box, and GCI tower I am going through is throttling the throughput. Up on the slope I get 2.5 mbps, here I get .4

I keep an online job search agent active for "network", "cisco" etc and one of the new jobs recently was for postings from Verizon to hire comm guys up here.  If they are looking to get techs hired, they can't be too far off..?

I was working with an AT&T (Alascom) tech recently.  The contract he was fulfilling was under Verizon.  We had to work from 4am to 9am because that's when Verizon works on the East coast. (Pricks.  I am not a morning person)

I didn't ask but AT&T working for Verizon?  Did someone buy someone out again?

Somebody just recently had the makings of a fiber line run from at least Old Murphy Dome Rd on the Elliot Hwy to past mile 16...

They had a contractor (Alaska Land Clearing, IIRC) clear the right of way from Haystack north, then another contractor, City Electric, came in and trenched two 1.25" HDPE tubes down the right of way.  They are still empty, but I can only imagine that they are for fibers...  They just finished that a week or two ago.

Any insight?

That means we should get it in about 10 years in Juneau -
