If I'm going to put my face behind a 6 foot wide sign, I would at least make sure it was spelled right.
Looks like a meeting place for the politically confused anonymous.

I know a couple of conservative folks who went down to see what they were doing and to ask some questions. Thier comments were along the lines of " this bunch of moron dope smokers couldn't articulate anything other than vague demands for wealth re-distribution. Looking around, I couldn't see a W-2 form in any of their futures." Outstanding group of citizens. I did bring up the notion of having an "Occupy Birchwood Shooting Range" day. We could rent (not hijack) the range and see how much coverage the lefty news gives us.

With 1% of the population controlling 50% of the wealth I can see some of their points. Also the rich pay less of their income percentage wise in taxes than does the middle class due to tax shelters and loop holes in the tax code. I want a flat tax.

Not that I'm against the flat tax, I think it is truly the only way to be fair, but the above statement isn't true.  In 2008 - 50% of the "taxpayers" didn't pay taxes in this country.  The top 1% accounted for 38% of the total tax revenue.  The rich more than pay their "fair share."  My guess is that the bottom 50% also participate in many entitlement programs available to the "working poor" so would technically have a negative effective tax rate.

Its true that 1% of the wealthiest americans hold 42% of the wealth. (was slightly off earlier) and its getting worse. Soon there will only be rich and poor if things keep going the way they are. As for blame there is plenty to be handed out to both political parties.

Another good idea is the Fair Tax

I think we do need reform on many government programs that help the poor to cut back on the abuse we are seeing but that is only a part of the problem. We need to tax people fairly and everyone needs to pay their share. I know this will not be popular but we also need to cut back on the military. We can no longer afford to be the worlds policeman. We spend 100 times more on our armed forces than the rest of the world does combined on theirs. Of course doing that will hurt the unemployment rate.  Approximately 1/3 of the federal budget is spent onthe military 1/3 on social programs and the rest is on running the government and paying the interest on the debt.  We need to cut spending and increase tax revenue. Its just like if you are in financial trouble as an individual you look for places to cut and you try to work more OT or odd jobs to raise more cash flow.

I can't really disagree with anything there.  I just have a thing about everyone bashing on the wealthy.  There comes a point where one has so much wealth that it's impossible to spend it all and it grows at a rate that incomprehensible to the average person (just like the national debt).  Taking that wealth from those individuals, just because the we can, is in my opinion against everything this country was founded on.  Much of our current problem, as suggested by one of the articles, is the amount of debt that the middle class is shouldering.  Much of it is due to the culture of excess and lack of financial education in this country (see idiots protesting).  Some sort of individual responsibility must be taken.

I have nothing against people doing well and accumulating wealth. What I have a problem with is when they step on other people to do it, such as pay their workers next to nothing in sweat shops over seas, hide their money with loop holes in the tax code, lobby congress and bribe officials to do things that help them and hurt the rest of us. The only thing worse in my view than big government is big buisness controlling big government which is what we have now.

Ahhh, BMac.  He was quite the scenester back in the day.  But being a bohemian doesn't pay the bills.

I remember when Bush prevailed in the Supreme Court, he drove around with a big placard on his Subaru (on his job delivering the Anchorage Press) saying "HELP US UN!  OUR ELECTION HAS BEEN STOLEN!"

Now he's got the white house and Congress and things didn't quite turn out like he thought it would.

Communism is a form of government in which a small group has control of all the power. China is a communist country with a capitalist ecomomy. Having social programs does not make you communist. You can have a democracy with an economy that is socialist and you can have a communist country with a capitalist economy. A pure capitalist society is not good because it ends in a monopoly and high prices, child labor, poor pay for workers etc.
