I am an Alaska resident but am In Colorado for the army. I never bothered with getting a permit to carry what with the constitutional carry there. Now I cannot get a carry permit anywhere else that will be good in Colorado. Can anyone point me towards the info I need to get a alaska carry permit what I need to do. I just took another NRA pistol course that was valid for Iowa florida and utah nonres which should be enough for any CLEO in terms of training Im just really wondering if not having an active address in Alaska will be a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm pretty sure you have to take an AK approved class.
It's too much to post in here but page 19 on this doc outlays the requirements Link |

From what I am seeing they need an 'authorized' class as well as fingerprints. I have a finger print card done up. Might have to go up this spring and see a friend for a while. The sad thing is that it is a 12 hour requirement for the state of alaska. I know Alaska Tactical has courses but you are looking at a 250 dollar fee and a 100 round count. Most states just don't get into it. Seems so rediculous to need to shoot for it. Most states don't require it at all and you would think a state that has constitutional carry wouldn't bother with all the extras.
I might have to give a call up there I know that many states accepts military training and could help me skip the extras might have to just get it straight from the horses mouth on this. |

Im told that colorado has no non resident permit and does not accept any non resident permits. So as I am a resident of Alaska I would need my Alaska carry permit. Ahh that might make sense I was a resident of CO when I lived there, hated every minute of it, except getting up in Woodland Park area |

CO used to have an exception for Military Members stationed in CO, so you may still be able to get a CO permit. It has been about 8 years since I was stationed there. Looking at the El Paso county sheriffs page I just found that there is one tiny part in the QandA section stating that active duty would be considered residents. I think I will hold off on the Alaska permit at least until I can get that checked out. Thanks for the help guys. |
