I am an Alaska resident but am In Colorado for the army.  I never bothered with getting a permit to carry what with the constitutional carry there.  Now I cannot get a carry permit anywhere else that will be good in Colorado.  Can anyone point me towards the info I need to get a alaska carry permit what I need to do.  I just took another NRA pistol course that was valid for Iowa florida and utah nonres which should be enough for any CLEO in terms of training Im just really wondering if not having an active address in Alaska will be a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I may be wrong, but I think your going to have to go back up there and take a class. I hope I am wrong. That would suck.

I'm pretty sure you have to take an AK approved class.

It's too much to post in here but page 19 on this doc outlays the requirements

You also must apply in person at a Trooper outpost

From what I am seeing they need an 'authorized' class as well as fingerprints.  I have a finger print card done up.  Might have to go up this spring and see a friend for a while.  The sad thing is that it is a 12 hour requirement for the state of alaska.  I know Alaska Tactical has courses but you are looking at a 250 dollar fee and a 100 round count.  Most states just don't get into it.  Seems so rediculous to need to shoot for it.  Most states don't require it at all and you would think a state that has constitutional carry wouldn't bother with all the extras.

I might have to give a call up there I know that many states accepts military training and could help me skip the extras might have to just get it straight from the horses mouth on this.

I lived in Ketchikan for 2 years where no one taught the class.  I tried to find another way to get it (even for AD) but they still required the class.

Why not just get a ccw for CO? It wasn't that hard when I lived there, will they reciprocate with OR? OR was really easy too hell the one CLEO will travel out of state and issue them in WA.

Im told that colorado has no non resident permit and does not accept any non resident permits.  So as I am a resident of Alaska I would need my Alaska carry permit.

Ahh that might make sense I was a resident of CO when I lived there, hated every minute of it, except getting up in Woodland Park area

CO used to have an exception for Military Members stationed in CO,  so you may still be able to get a CO permit.  It has been about 8 years since I was stationed there.

yep, joe nava teaches a really good class... (even if you break his gun during the skills test at the end... ). also condition red training group but they have a really wierd schedual , run by an AK trooper who is on the state SWAT team so if somthing bad happens he has to cancel class half way through, far cheaper than AK tactical due to the potential to cancel the class. good training though.

Looking at the El Paso county sheriffs page I just found that there is one tiny part in the QandA section stating that active duty would be considered residents.  I think I will hold off on the Alaska permit at least until I can get that checked out.  Thanks for the help guys.
