Quoted: I wonder if we can spear fish for salmon up here... Thatd be fun to do, find a clear river more than 4 feet deep and just shoot em. They get so thick I'm sure I could get 3 at once easy. I have thought about this many a time. Even something like bird creek by the big rock. |

Quoted: Nice roundup. There's something to be said about inserting yourself into the middle of a foodchain and still coming out on top. The less gear you use, and deeper you go... the better the fish taste! Where was that at? It was on the Westside. I still have to Cigua check that roi. |

I know these might not be up to ridewaves standards http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/donniebrasco223/IMG_1924.jpg?1291601955 I'm interested in what kind of fish you have there. Can you tell us less informed types. I know there are no Salmon, Halibut or Yellow Eye :-) Oh, and what the hell is that green stuff underneath them? Until that day, Darkop |

I know their Hawaiian names, so I will try my best to give their real names. From the bottom left: Uhu/Parrotfish, Kumu/goatfish,Omilu/ trevally, Pualu/surgeon fish, Enenue/rudderfish. Top right is another surgeon fish/Naenae and a peacock grouper. The grouper (roi) is considered a pest here. On the top right those are parrots as well. Known here as Rock Uhu or Pananu |

Use of underwater spear In salt water, spears may be used to take fish, subject to applicable seasons and bag limits, by persons who are completely submerged. The regs right now don't authorize a spear gun but ADF&G is considering modifying the law to allow their use. I couldn't find anything about fresh water. |
