The History Channel is going to do a reality based shooting show called "America's Top Shot"
It sounded like fun so I responded with a picture and a short email about myself.
Well today I got a call from one of the production company guys telling me that they want me to create a short video about myself that shows my personality, talks about my life and shooting history and why I would be a great contestant.
So I basically have 10 days to get this video shot and in the mail to them.
Im looking for ideas.  In all honesty I would love a cold snap so I could get some footage at 40 below
The picture I sent is was me shooting AKMike's Barret 82A1 offhand so Ill probably ask another buddy of mine if I can borrow his (since Mike is out in BFE for work) and have some range time.  Ill probably take short clips of a day in my life.

Any other ideas?  I really think this would be a hell of a lot of fun.

I may even do the self interview portion in shorts and a tshirt in front of one of the bank signs showing time and temp if it gets 20 below or colder.

Im open to anything

Oh yeah, the winner gets 100K

Im not sure I have time
I dont have ANY 308 loaded up at this point and I leave 12/28 so I have to have it done prior to that
Add Christmas, a shift at the youth facility, my daughters Christmas pagenant, and trying to get all my stuff and my daughters stuff together for this trip Im going to be pushing it

How bad do you want it?  Make some freaking time.  Do it in the dark to show how dedicated you are.  Shoot by headlight.  Play hard on what it takes to be a shooter here and the situations you will run into in the great white north.

Thats actually a really good idea.  Heck I've always wanted to go shooting at the range in the middle of the night with just a candle or something barely lighting up the target.

Maybe get a lil tracer fire going too?  (I have an AR that would be fun to do that out of)

On a different note, I have a 10mp camera that also does video.  Once I get my work schedule for next week I can let you know when I'm available to help.

Ive actually shot at night, its pretty fun
I took my NVD with me to scan and make sure there wasnt anything alive downrange and then painted my target with the cheap glow in the dark paint.
It was pretty cool, I may do that again

Its too bad I dont have some midnight sun shooting video.  I could do midnight sun and noon moon

the night shoot would be awesome if you went out and painted your target with glow stick juice... they would last for 8 hours or till you shot all the juice off the target... or for that matter just hang a few glow sticks and use them as targets...

you could do all a all NVD shoot, put on your NVD's, night vision camera and IR glow sticks...

i vote for a boiling water in a kettle with something that it will react with around it(if it gets wet) and then shoot it so that it doesnt ever hit the ground(.50 ought to do it),
optionaly what about a planned rocochet shot splitting the bullet in half for 2 targets at 300 yards? (really simple really just takes planning and some practice),  what a buddie about staging a fall through ice(STAGE HERE could be dangerous if done badly), and needing a fire for warmth and heat so you start a bonfire for your buddie who is isolated and cant get to you (cant cross river and doesnt have his own matches but will freeze with out fire).  somthign unique and alaskan though honestly im not the most creative guy,

Reality TV shows are evil and corrupt the mind.  Just go ask Jon and Kate,  Hulk Hogan and his now x-wife.......and the list goes one.  Plus most media types are so anti-gun that most likely there are trying for a portrayal of gun-owners as back-woods rednecks.

He has a point.  Maybe the History Channel can get it right.

Don't forget money is the root of all evil.  So, if you want to stay pure I recommend you give me the $100,000

Seriously though.  I've watched more than a few shooting shows lately and I am amazed at the lack of substance.

I defy anyone to get a single tidbit of usefull information out of the outdoor channel shows.  Maybe the hunting ones are okay, but the defensive ones are all flash and no substance.  I don't know, i don't hunt.

As a former Fairbanksan I have a little familiarity with what outsiders think in interesting/weird about Fairbanks and shooting there.

3 things stand out - Cold, feeedom and wide open spaces.

Definitely go for the cold weather angle, and I like the Barret idea. I'd go with that and throw in some super long distance shots.  How's your marksmanship at 300 or 400 yards?  That will make all those poor folks who have to do their shooting at indoor ranges drool (read 90% of thier viewers).

What might be really cool is using stuff that may not be legal inother places.  Does anyone have any of those exploding target thingies (yes I'm sure that's the technical term).  Or maybe a mil-surp parachute flare to light up the range.  Maybe shooting one out of a 37mm launcher.  I have one that launches off a garand, but it's an antique and I'm not prepared to donate it to the cause (unless of course you didn't get the sarcasm in that first line and are actually consdering cutting me in on the idea)!!!

Like I said, I'd go for all flash!

Hook up with the Fairbanks AMGA crowd for a shoot at the dike.  It'll bring new meaning to 'reactive targets'.  With a short timeframe this might not work though......

100k divided up amongst the AKHTF is a rather small sum...I'd ask for more $$

I have an NVG scope I'd loan you if you need to borrow it for the video.

I had another flash of brillance

Hunt for the elusive snowman (at night of course) or hunt for the elves

Something along the lines of the Blair Witch Project

Start in North Pole and head to the range from there

I dont know.  On one hand thats a novel idea.  On the other, it will probably make you sound completely insane to anyone down in the states.  Hate to say it like that though.  Would be pretty cool to blast apart a snowman.

I like that. Too bad it's too cold for the snow to stick, we could make an evil snow goon at the range to "kill."

Could haul some water and a sprayer to help make it, but would be a pain at current temperatures.  Forecast is looking better in the near future, though.

It sounds like a great idea.

But if it's anything like the actual Blair Witch Project the only thing I'd want to shoot at the end is myself!

Add a sno-go or a light aircraft to the mix and you have a winner.
