| Anyone here a member? I've been debating joining for a while now and was hoping someone would have a few pointers / what to expect. |
|
I knew I had a flyer on my desk somewhere. If it still works: www.ak-prepared.com/asdf ETA read their new flier. Their basically bobbies. No firearms without going to the LEO academy, and under special orders. |
| I like the premise of this group and have looked at joining many times. They do not seem to be well regarded by LEO and military communities for whatever reason. They can't be that large of an organization so it's possible that a handful of solids with a good attitide could really have a positive influence. |

Thats why I like the local FBKS guys i know that are doing it. They are fairly well grounded people. Honestly, im just doing it for the police qualifications test. I cant afford to take the class on my own. Plus it looks good on a resume |

They will send you through the academy? You do know that the academy is a full semester and is full time with weekends, right? The way it was described to me is that I would do the course work in my free time and then take the qualifications exam when i was done. I'm still trying to come up with more info though. |

The Police Academy in Fairbanks as well as the one in Sitka both require full time attendance. The one in Fairbanks routinely goes over 40 hours a week. It would be impossible for you to do a corrospondence version of everything. Being you are in Fairbanks, you can call Dusty Johnson who runs the program and he can explain more about the program. |

I was under the impression that the AKSDF ran their own program cooperatively with the academy. Namely because a lot of people cant volunteer to take time off work, etc to take a class. Granted if they are paying for it, it is cheaper but still no way in heck i can handle that and a full time job. |
